Moving MX to a different network

Hi All,

I need to move my MX from one network into a different network within the same organization.

As per documentation, this is possible however the downside is that I will lose my config and essentially have to rebuild from scratch?

has anyone done this before and found a way to move the MX and keeping their old config in place?

thanks in adv

Hi @LeAnts , I’m afraid you’re right in that configuration will be lost whilst moving your MX between Networks:

https://documentation.meraki.com/General_Administration/Inventory_and_Devices/Moving_Devices_between...

It’s a simple process which I’ve performed a number of times. Either use the APi to retrieve the existing firewall rules etc. or use a manual process of noting all the config prior to moving.

Remember that, when you create a new Network, you can use an existing Network to form the basis for your new Network, via cloning  https://documentation.meraki.com/General_Administration/Organizations_and_Networks/Cloning_Networks_...

@LeAnts if you are moving it into a combined network you can simply split the combined network into its components and then join together the bits you want.

For example:

Existing network A consists of Switch Network A, Appliance Network A and Wireless Network A, but you want to get the MX that is in Appliance Network B

Split network A

Combine Switch Network A, Appliance Network B and Wireless Network A into new Network A

TaDa!
