MX64 / MX65 USB Modem vs MX67C / MX68C

Can an MX64 vs MX65 form an AutoVPN over the backup cellular connection?

Can an MX67C use the CAT6 LTE as a primary WAN Uplink?

Yes, all correct, regardless of MX or Z model, if there is a cellular wireless wan backup (either USB dongle or integrated cellular) and there is no WAN/Internet connectivity via the WAN interface(s) on the MX/Z then the cellular will be leveraged for all traffic including AutoVPN tunnels, automatically.

And if you happen to have an MX or Z with embedded cellular, the units still have USB ports, and can still use an external USB cellular dongle, which would override the embedded one.  That is, there's only one active cellular link, so if you've got an MX68CW for example, and both WAN1 and WAN2 are down, you either have the integrated cellular OR a USB dongle as a tertiary backup.  You cannot use integrated cellular as a tertiary backup plus a USB cellular dongle as quaternary backup, or vice-versa.

Kind of a big deal

If our primary uplinks fail we do get a autovpn over the cellular.  I'm not sure on the MX67C question though.

Yes, an MX64/65 can use the site-to-site VPN over the cellular connection. We have stores do that frequently when they fail over and some that use the USB cellular modem for extended periods of time when the ISP is slow to install, or has extended outages.

As for the MX67C, I am pretty sure it cannot be the primary WAN if there is a wired uplink in WAN 1 or 2. If there was nothing in WAN 1 or 2, then you should be able to use it for the primary connection.

@MacuserJim is correct - the new built in LTE modem serves exactly the same role as what an existing USB plug in cellular modem did - it only functions as a backup.  Having said that, if you have nothing plugged into WAN1/2 then it will become permanently active.
