MX450 access AWS and Google cloud

Dear All,

Quick question clarification: I´m specifying a MX450 Meraki appliance for a central site which needs to access AWS and Google public Cloud. Do I have to specify vMX license for each cloud ? If so, do you know the SKU should I have to use for ordering information in Cisco CCW? Besides that what is instance size should I recommend to customer create in each cloud to deploy vMX ?

I´d appreciate your help. Thanks.

The sku is same no matter the cloud. LIC-VMX-ENT-X-YY or LIC-VMX-SEC-X-YY where X is the size and YY is the term.

Size will depend on your throughput needs you can see a comparison here: https://documentation.meraki.com/MX/MX_Sizing_Information/MX_Sizing_Principles#Performance_Data

Note the vMX-XL is still restricted to AWS

Hi @krisaraujo ,

Couple of other useful docs for deploying vMX into AWS and Google cloud:

https://documentation.meraki.com/MX/MX_Installation_Guides/vMX_Setup_Guide_for_Amazon_Web_Services_(...)

https://documentation.meraki.com/MX/MX_Installation_Guides/vMX_Setup_Guide_for_Google_Cloud_Platform...)

I'm not an employee of Cisco/Meraki. My posts are based on Meraki best practice and what has worked for me in the field.

Thanks for your quick reply.

However browsing your recommended guide I saw that vMX-Large and vMX-Extra large supports the same number of concurrent sessions (1,000.000) MX Sizing Guide & Principles - Cisco Meraki Documentation.

When I should use Large size and I should use Extra large vMX size?

For GCP I assume I should use Large because Extra large, according to your information is restricted to AWS cloud.

Thanks once again.

The vMX XL supports more bandwidth (10gbps) than the L (1gbps)

However besides that the XL does not yet support NAT mode and the L does. So it really depends on your exact needs.
