MX 105 dropped internet after fan noise

Greetings! Something weird happened our MX-105 which is core, started making loud fan noise all of a sudden and sound came for almost a min and then it dropped an internet. Now it took 10-15 sec to bring internet online because it might have rebooted. Did anyone happens to be have same issue?

Reached out support they said 16.14v has software issues in it, it would be in best interest to update firmware to 16.16v

When the 95/105 boots the fans are at 100% speed. Then they come down after it's online. So it sounds like your MX probably rebooted.

What would be the cause of it because i can't see anything on dashboard tho. ?

Hard to know without seeing the dashboard. Could be software related, could be power related. Best to open a Support case and have an engineer look.

Kind of a big deal

If you hover over the connectivity bar in appliance status it will sometimes give useful reasons like power, DNS, connectivity, etc. reason for being offline.  If it was a quick reboot it might not show anything though.  This is an example of a recent upstream internet outage, for example:

Checked but isn't reflecting outage.

It would be a good idea to set up a machine to ping continuously the LAN interface of the MX and if the same problem happens again, you will have a brief idea if the MX was up during the outage or not. Also, let Meraki support so they can check the MX uptime and see if the MX rebooted.

Wonder if this issue has re-arisen on MX105 and latest FW. Currently it's on MX 18.107.2. Getting similar reports from customer that box frequently makes a loud wailing noise, so loud that even with door to room shut, they can still here.

Checked connectivity logs, and can see that there are a lot of drops visible. Have logged a support case, but haven't heard back yet.

The other thing I've noticed is:

Wondering if anyone else is seeing this.

In your case, try changing to a different firmware, it looks like the unit is not installing the currently selected one and rebooting
