Your 2025 Wishlist (Meraki Style)

This post is just for fun, but if you could have ONE thing added from Meraki what would that one thing be? It could be a feature, hardware, or forum change.

My one thing is Radius WPA3 Enterprise.

Adding this would allow me to have IPSK on 6GHz.

It was a close race with having a 8/12 port 10G uplink 2.5G POE++ switch with L3 "optional".

For me I would change the way motion detection works on MV so that only configured areas of interest can trigger motion detection.

I have a MV that overlooks my front door and part of the street. I have an AOI configured right in front of the door but the MV is capturing every car that drives past even though they are outside of the AOI.

That is my issue with motion detection, I have no interest in motion alerts I just want motion detection to work.

So you're talking about manual motion search? I'm not following.

To me it sounds like motion detection is just broken and not working as required.  If they set an area to monitor and alert on the cameras are picking up motion outside of those areas.

I'm not an employee of Cisco/Meraki. My posts are based on Meraki best practice and what has worked for me in the field.

I like motion alerts, but they don't work on the MV72X.  When it rains at night you get 100+ spurious alerts.  There is no ETA on the fix, even though the issue has been acknowledged.  @Ryan_Miles do you know if the 3rd generation cameras are also affected?

Motion alerts in rain, heavy fog/mist, dust, bugs, etc can be tricky to deal with.

The main approach to reducing the false alerts is adjusting the sensitivity of the motion alerts through the available controls (duration, sensitivity, area of interest, alert of people only). Another deployment practice that can help is to use an external IR panel instead of the onboard IR lights. This is especially helpful on the MV52 which I find to be the most sensitive to rain drops, snow, mist, bugs, etc.

For on demand searches I find the people and vehicles filters in Vision Portal do a pretty good job cutting out many of the false positives.

I hope we see more refinement with motion alerts in general.

The beta almost does this for me, 6m+ to 4m max.  It does have one or two other issues...

For me it is the same as for the last around ten years: Incoming filter for extranet VPNs on the MX. But I don’t understand the wish for WPA3 Enterprise. I am running that for a very long time with Meraki.

Maybe I wasn't clear but we talked about this in another post. Meraki doesn't allow IPSK with Radius on 6GHz.

Ah, alright. Yes, I am also waiting for that. But that is not "WPA3 Enterprise". It's still "Personal" although it uses RADIUS.

More distribution switch options would be my wish.

For me, it's the ability to use port ranges and lists in ACL's and Group Policies.

For the MT30 Button sensor to allow a push for it to Disable/Enable Port Schedules.
  >  This would allow us to increase cost savings across our network. We Switch off the Wireless AP with Port schedules. This however, doesn't allow us to switch it back for sites that randomly open on a weekend, without Technical intervention. Therefore we need to have the AP running over the weekend for no reason.

The MT30 really needs much more flexibility.

We're now waiting on our Meraki Gold Partners who are working on a project to give this type of functionality to an MV Camera.
You are NOT able to toggle on or off the Port Schedules without external intervention. Potentially we could save up to another £20k annually on electricity being able to switch off the AP for Weekends and school holidays.

I'd love to see Link Aggregation on MX ports.

I don't wish for much only for :

STP on MX

LACP on MX

Port stats on MX

Port cycle ports on MX

Be able to have firewall rules with Ports , Ports range and different protocols in the same rule on MX.

Heck, even LLDP/CDP information on the MX dashboard would be great, rather than having to pull it with postman everytime. 😛
