"recently-added" tag added automatically by Meraki when adding a device to the network?

Hey,

We are just looking through the tags applied to some of our WAPs. We are seeing this "recently-added" tag on some of them, and we don't know where it came from.

Is this added automatically by Meraki when you add a device to the network? Does Meraki remove it automatically after a while?

While I don't find any documentation to share with you that specifically references the "recently-added" aspect, the recently-added tag will remain until such time you remove it.  And it is ok to remove it.

I suspect (for APs in particular) the "recently-added" is a tag put there to either 1.) let folks know or 2.) as a reminder to adjust tags according to your specific network (SSID broadcast tag or device tag).

You can add/remove tags as you see fit to accommodate your network.

You can safely remove the "recently-added" tag if you don't plan on searching activity in the summary reports based on "recently-added" tag.

Here is the Manage Tags documentation if you want to read about it further.  It looks like you are already using a tag system tailored to your network design/needs, which is a good sign.

@bradly this is a default tag that Systems manager applies to newly enrolled devices, it's meant to help admins quickly identify devices that have just been enrolled. The idea is you remove the tag from devices once you have configured them.

You can disable it or change the tag you want to use by going to Systems Manager > Configure > General

Hang on I just re-read your post and saw that you meant WAP, sorry I assumed you meant MDM devices. Hmm I have never seen the recently-added tag on a WAP before, I don't believe you can set default tags on MR or MS devices.

That’s automatically added by default.

I'm not an employee of Cisco/Meraki. My posts are based on Meraki best practice and what has worked for me in the field.

Really? I have never seen it on any of my Orgs when adding MR, I just double checked as I added one within the last month and there is no recently added tag.
