This month’s community challenge is brought to you by our illustrious Training Evangelists @SandroZ and @RafaelM! The ACME Corp is in a bind and needs YOUR help with their Meraki deployment. Read through the problem below to determine where to put their new Meraki gear. Submit a correct answer before the deadline and you could win some sweet swag!
ACME IoT Challenge
After a successful proof of concept (aka “PoC”) in a different location, ACME Corp has decided to install Meraki equipment in their on-prem data center. A few sensors from the PoC are already installed in the racks labeled as ‘DB’, but they have no gateways to connect to at the moment (☹ very unhappy sensors).
Whoever oversaw the design has mysteriously disappeared, leaving no trace behind except for 2 diagrams with some highlighted spots and a list of cryptic requirements, perfectly in time for our February community challenge!
ACME has already approved the design but, without an accurate list of materials, they cannot purchase the devices. They also don’t know where to install them.
Your mission: look carefully through the “list of requirements” and come up with a proposal for which devices need to be installed at each of the spots labeled on the diagrams below.
The Meraki Dashboard account already has the exact number of licenses required to cover the datacenter deployment for 3 years:
- 11x LIC-MT-3Y
- 2x LIC-MV-3YR
- 3x LIC-ENT-3YR
List of requirements
- Each spot on the map must contain 1 device and only 1 device
- Cameras are required to monitor each door from inside
- 1 Fisheye camera is enough to monitor both doors that allow access to the ‘Main Area’ from outside
- Spots J, M, L must contain a temperature & humidity sensor
- Desk space inside the datacenter needs to be monitored for quality of living (temperature and humidity) at the desk level
- Every time a door is open, an email alert needs to be sent to the datacenter administrators
- Wifi coverage is required in both areas (‘Main Area’, ‘Restricted Area’)
- 2 APs are required to cover the ‘Main Area’
- All AP’s needs to be WIFI 6 4x4 on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz with internal antennas
- AC units might cause leaks in their proximity, an alert needs to be raised to the on call support engineer when a water leak is detected
- Each Rack labeled “DB” already has a dedicated temperature sensor installed inside the rack, 1 open/close sensor installed on the front door and 1 open/close sensor installed on the rear door
- APs and Cameras must be mounted on the ceiling.
- Sensors-to-gateways ratio must be always within the manufacturer recommended limits
- Assume that the distance between any 2 spots in the map is less than the minimum distance required for Bluetooth sensors to correctly communicate with a gateway
- At least 1 AP is required to cover the ‘Restricted Area’
- In the ‘Restricted Area’ the camera must be an MV22 placed as close as possible to the door
