vMX license upgrade
Hello,
If you deploy a vMX in Azure, and start with the small license, can you then later upgrade to fx. medium license on-the-fly? Or what is needed?
And do you have to change the Azure VM type, if you upgrade from small to medium?
Thanks for any help 🙂

@PhilipDAth is correct here. There are no "upgrade" license SKUs for the vMX sizes. If you currently have a small vMX deployed and would like a large vMX, you will have to purchase a large license and deploy a new instance for the large vMX.

Hi @rasmusan1 , good question. I don’t see any upgrade license which would be a bonus.
if you look at this from a physical perspective I would treat as thus ie you’d need to build a new vMX and swap them over as so and procure a new license for the bigger vMX.
sorry, quite waffly but hope that makes sense

thanks for your reply, however I don't see anything in the deployment guide for Azure, in regards to choosing a specific VM size, depending on the license level - therefore it would make sense to me, if this is just a question of the license applied which limitations is enforced - and thus also possible to upgrade.
Hopefully someone from Meraki will answer this thread, to shed some light on this matter...

You don't really get to choose. The size is specified in the deployment template. You also can't change the size.
To go to a larger VMX would require that a new VMX be deployed. Nothing Meraki can do about that as the Azure configuration for a template is locked by Azure.
