Have netgear insight for my parents house as far as Switches and AP's as my brother who has been living there since my Dad died last year is comfortable managing the netgear. I have not tried the netgear firewalls yet as I last used a netgear business firewall I think back in 01 or 02 when I swapped it out for a Cisco 831 router. I could not agree more on the fortigate UI, while the hardware has great specs and it's very capable it's not something I want to be training low level techs on for support and with how easy a MX is to setup and manage where as level 1 can directly support it's hard to justify added support costs vs lower hardware/license costs. Rather have higher capx spending and lower opx costs supporting it. It's crazy that pfsense setups like firewalla can be out there for low cost but not a single big player has been successful with a low cost smb firewall line. Most are pretty much VPN boxes with a statefull firewall and nothing more. Honestly if they would just have a line of MX's for SMB that did not have the crazy inflated license fees it would be successful. No need to have a separate line like meraki GO. Not sure why the enterprise license has to be so expensive. I get charge for the Adv and SDwan but if they dropped the enterprise license in half for a mx75 it's pretty much all I would install. And only on the larger clients that can afford the adv sec would I have them upgrade as mist already are looking at MX95's now for adv security to have the mbps needed with security enabled I can't see Cisco taking a loss on each mx75 it sells even without licensing even at its partner price, so add in what it costs for them to operate the cloud for the MX in enterprise mode and surely they are still making a profit even if it was $50 a year in licensing.

Aruba/HPE has phone support but I have not had to use them. They do also sell extended service care like cisco for devices to extend the warranty which is great for certain situations. I have not found anything I really like more than the Meraki MX for simple firewall/security appliance. Biggest issue with Meraki MX's is if you go bigger than a MX75 the price is insane for Adv Security and don't even look at SDWAN cause its even crazier. I have tried out the watchguard units, and they are way better than the units I was installing back in 08 and definitely stepped it up from the ones I replaced back in 2015 time frame but still not wowing me. The Fortinet units are nice, but honestly they GUI still does not have the flow that I like and while they are powerful for the hardware cost they do require much more training for the techs to support them. Nowhere as easy as setting up and managing a MX Probably the nicest thing about Meraki, Aruba and Engenius products is I can spend a day with a new tech and get them onboarded to support the hardware. Fortinet has a steeper learning curve that is really not needed for most SMB networks. Honestly as much as I hate Ubiquity unifi I might give the new EFG a try. At $2k direct from them it has 12Gbps throughput with IDS/IPS enabled and has SSL/TLS decryption included without licensing. Obviously the lack luster Ubiquity support is still an issue and the new support plan they are offering who really knows if its worth the cost yet and how long it will last based on past history of support with Ubiquity. If you buy direct from them you do get a 2 year warranty on hardware so unless Meraki ups its game in the performance vs price on its MX's as more and more ISP's are offering 1G and higher business internet speeds its going to force a move to something else. Can't justify to a client the cost of a MX95 and Adv Security License to be able to support a 1GB internet connection. Which is why I have been keeping my eye on new hardware from multiple vendors.

Reality is it has nothing to do with theft. Plenty of companies brick devices when you prove it was stolen with a police report or the like. Meraki on the other hand just bricks it with out any proof or requirements, they are in it for the money. One less device that can be used means one more they can sell to replace it. Complete scumbags in how they run things.

Welcome to what makes Meraki completely suck.. Even if they were unclaimed, the owner can still report them lost, stolen, etc etc.. and have them removed from your dashboard months or years later and Meraki does not care. It will be the downfall of Meraki in the long-term. Thankfully the new Hybrid Cisco/Meraki hardware that can work cloud or premise at least allows you to still use the hardware outside of the cloud for used equipment without the risk of it being disabled on you.

You would have to test, Since you say its brick, they could have a wire mesh in the wall and that could drastically reduce signal. Also when the building is wet the brick will absorb moisture and also decrease signal in the 2.4ghz band.

Yes at end of Support you no longer will get updates. You should look at EnGenius FIT and HPE/Aruba InstantOn to replace them as they are same price points and cloud managment. I just ordered the HPE/Aruba AP32 and at $200 for a Wifi6e Cloud managed AP with no licensing fee it might be the new default for my clients if its stable in my testing. The Fit AP's and switches are pretty much the best bang for the buck you will find in a cloud managed device. They have the indoor wifi6 AP's on sale for $49 and $99 currently in the engenius store. Have a few client sites running with FIT and its been stable and had no issues. So for sites that don't need anything crazy its cheap and reliable.

@GroupeBleu - I agree with you and its why I only have one client still using Meraki go access points and have moved all my smaller clients that don't need a full enterprise solution to Aruba InstantOn instead. The Aruba InstantON Ap's and Access Points have been rock solid and actually supported by Aruba. When I saw Meraki not producing any new switches and no POE switches ever instock I was not going to keep investing in a product Cisco clearly did not care about. Engenius FIT is also one I have in testing right now seeing how the AP's and Switches do for small clients as it has a great pricepoint as well Its fitting since I have started moving all my clients off all Meraki products now. The way Meraki handles its Hardware so that its useless outside of the original purchaser to the how they are now inflating licensing costs and making features that require additional licenses I am done. I have both Fortigate and Watchguard security appliances here that they sent me free of charge to test out to see what I am going to replace dozens of MX's as the lic's expire. And have TP Link Omada and Engenius Mgig switches and AP's being tested to replace the other meraki hardware. Its sad but after a decade plus of pushing Meraki, its dead to me now. Even my home network which is a full meraki stack of MX95, MS355-24x, MS125-24p, MR56(x3), MR57, MR86(x2) and numerous MV72's have less than 400 days till licensing ends and will be replaced as well. It is nice having the single interface to manage everything but the new charge for ever feature and screw the customer mentality of Cisco makes it a tough pill to swallow. Thankfully I have a few clients that don't mind testing new systems and are OK with being the test bed for replacements. Its how we moved to Aruba InstantON from merakiGo and Ubiquity on smaller sites. I am hoping TP Links Omada impresses me and is reliable as it has a great pricepoint and could even see it replacing InstantON hardware. Engenius I am sure will be great but it tends to have a higher pricepoint on its more enterprise hardware which is fine for replacing meraki but is harder to justify for replacing merakiGO unless you are going with the Engenius FIT lineup which is less features and pretty much just like MerakiGo

Just shows up as meraki admin removed, which is why I had to open a case to find out what the deal was. And then found out meraki operates this scam not requiring it to be reported stolen and have paperwork or anything. They literally let you report that you lost it in transit and remove it from the system without any paperwork or proof and you have zero recourse and they won't even tell you who reported it. Hence why I might just make a small claims case against them

Meraki does not care, they don't require anything from the person reporting it as list in transit. Literally long as you know the original purchaser info and have a sn you can report it lost in transit and they will block it and remove from any networks no police or insurance forms needed. It's a complete scam that run. And it being 6 months ebay won't do anything.

Meraki is the shady one, they do not require any police reports or anything. Just provide original purchaser info and said it was lost in transit. And no not fraud having the charges reversed since they are refusing me to use the hardware I will refuse to pat for licenses not being used. They want to be shady and support such activity then they can pound sand

You might be the one to delete after reading, cause as I stated they did it 6 months later. Meraki clearly is a supporting them. They created the environment for scamming. Meraki does not require anything other than the original owner to state it was lost in transit. So they sell it make money and then get meraki to disable it months later whe. Nothing can be done to them. Meraki should require a police report before they pull such bull. But nope cause they are only about making money and screwing people. So yes meraki will be getting pulled and I will be having charges reversed for recent licenses that are no longer being used as fitting parting gift to this shady operation

That fact that Meraki allows it even if the seller acted in bad faith is enough for me to drop meraki. Literally 6 month later and meraki just does what ever they want so they are just as culpable as the seller. Meraki's std line is to get a refund, sorry it's 6 months later zero chance of getting a refund

So Meraki policies have officially made me start moving to watch guard appliances and fortinet. Testing Aruba and ruckus wifi now as well to find my ap replacement. Meraki pulled the ultimate scumbag move and now debating on taking them to small claims court just for the hell of it. So I bought a MX85 used but did my research and made sure it was unclaimed and not trial hardware. Added it to a dashboard network in a holding organization to make sure it stayed claimed by me. (Now I did this back on april last year). This way I had a spare until it was needed. In October Meraki went into my network and removed my mx85 and I only noticed it about a week ago when I was about to put it into use. Reached out to Meraki and got the normal BS crap about they only deal with the original owner and that in October is was reported to them as missing in transit. This is 6 months after I had the device in my network that they pull this crap. So not another cent will be spent on meraki licenses. My clients have probably 300 meraki devices so as they expire I normally just have them go to the newest meraki hardware as everything is licenses 3 to 5 years so that it can be replaced as it's expiring. Even my house has a dozen meraki devices as I have been a big supporter since moving all my clients from Sonicwalls over 6 years ago but since they truly are out to screw people I am now done. I mean you could not buy new meraki hardware cause of bs covid manufacturing excuses and now the hardware you had to buy used can just be turned off months or years later with out any valid reason and meraki does not care. Thankfully I purchased the last group of licenses on credit card instead of dealing with sales rep and going thru partner channel so just going to dispute the charge and be done. So be warned that even if you have a device in your organization in use it can be removed months or years later with no recourse. So used meraki hardware truly is trash

I am talking with a client that currently is running a MX600 and has I think about 5 years of Adv Security Licensing remaining on it. If they wanted to buy a MX450 or MX250 to replace the MX600 does meraki have a way of downgrading the license to the MX450/250 or trading it in on the MX450/250 Lic. I mean the MX650 5yr Adv Security lic is $105,000 and the MX450 is $66K so a straight downgrade to the MX450 or 250 would make sense for Meraki as they get you to buy the new hardware and obviously they already got your money for the License and it was significantly more than what you would have paid for the new hardware. Now for the client the best case would be if it had a trade program where they got the credit for the amount they spent on the higher priced lic so that they would get more days on the new lower tier but I don't see that happening. I would just be happy if some way you could convert from a more expensive MX license to a cheaper one day for day at least.

I have MR45/MR55 for my AP's that were upgraded from MR33/42 that were rock solid in the same locations. I had a few people complain but could not really see anything on the dashboard and with it being intermittent never really saw what the issue was. But I have really noticed the issue since changing my phone from a Pixel4 to a onePlus8 pro. I can be using my phone an just suddenly network speed slows to a crawl/stop. Can be looking at a webpage or facebook etc and just will stop loading. Does not show disconnected or just respond with unable to load, instead you will sit and watch a spinning wheel forever till it timesout. Switch off the wifi and works just fine on my phones data. Turn back on wifi and it will start working again normally. Internet connection is fine and other devices both wireless and wired keep working so not an internet issue. Happens both when in fixed location (Can be right next to AP even) and if moving around. Have also had the issue with two lenovo laptops with wifi6 so does not seem to be limited to just a single chipset or device seems more wifi6 related. AP's currently running 27.6 firmware, have not installed the stable release or Beta yet as I don't want to add other issues into the mix. So unless someone can tell me the fix is in one of new releases I want to try and get my wifi back to being stable. The AP's are tied into MS125-24P and a MS220-8P so being separate switches that would make it highly unlikely a switch issue causing it. The configs are basic with 3 SSID's, (two bridge mode one NAT) no VLAN's or anything special configured using default indoor RF profile with just the minimum speed set above 11 to disable 802.11b. Have not disabled the AX as that would basically defeat the purpose of going with the newer models over the units it replaced. The health dashboard of the clients show green so its not seeing it as an obvious issue. Hope that I can find a solution and figured I would start here before opening a support ticket as maybe its a known issue and hopefully a quick fix. I have a few dozen Aruba Go wifi6 AP22's in the field at client sites that have been rock solid and I do not have the same issue with my phone on them and no reports from anyone with the issues the MR's are experiencing.
