@PeterJames I appreciate that suggestion.  I will see if I can take a look at the keychain...  My experience with Apple programming is limited, unfortunately, because I write apps using HTML/CSS/JavaScript, then compile them into native apps using Cordova.  I use XCode only at the end for on-device debugging, final building, and distributing -- so I know very little about what goes on behind the scenes in XCode, but I'm sure Google will have something regarding keychains in XCode-built apps. ... The device automatically puts itself into DEP.  I can't stop that -- unless you know of a way I can stop that?  It enrolls itself in DEP during the factory-reset process, pretty much right before it gives me the option to restore (or not) from the iCloud backup...   Even if I were to somehow remove the device from DEP so it didn't automatically enroll itself, wouldn't the iCloud restoration cause it to re-enroll itself?   But at this point, I'm willing to try anything - if you can tell me how to keep it from DEP'ing itself when I do a factory-reset, I am all ears.  Thanks. ... Ok, so I cannot restore the backup without restoring the DEP info...   Where do I get the Supervision Certificate for the existing DEP profile, then?  And how do I install that certificate into Apple Configurator 2 so I can pair it with these iPads?   Thanks, L.   ... View more

Another update...  When I push the update, I see the icon of my app get dark, the text beneath it says "cleaning", then it says "waiting", then "installing", then it shows the icon in it's normal brightness...     What is that "cleaning" business?!  That certainly sounds like Meraki is deleting the data!!!  How do I get this "cleaning" thing not to happen? ... Please take a look at the following screenshot:     Why is the "Settings" column blank for all of them?  (FYI, the "Settings" column is not blank for the one that I assigned the new DEP Management Profile to.) How could we have received a bunch of iPads WITH NO SETTINGS?!!!  Is that why I cannot pair with AC2?!   PLEASE HELP!!!     ... View more

I need to get Apple Configurator 2 (I'm gonna call it AC2) to connect to my managed iPads. Period.   I created a new DEP profile that does allow "pairing."  It works on any iPad I push it to -- as long as I do not restore that iPad's iCloud backup.  If I choose to restore the iPad's iCloud backup, it apparently also restores the DEP profile?  Even though it doesn't show that on my DEP Profile's page -- it still show's that iPad to have the new DEP Profile...   So it appears maybe I'm screwed?  But the exact error message that AC2 gives me is this: "The supervision configuration for these devices does not allow pairing without the supervision certificate. Create an organization with the correct supervision identity, or re-supervise these devices with pairing allowed."  Which would seem to indicate that if I had the Supervision Certificate, I could install that certificate on my computer, and AC2 would connect to the iPads without me having to install a new DEP Profile on them, right?   So where do I get this Supervision Certificate?   Thanks, Laurence MacNeill Ball Ground, Georgia, USA ... Ok... VERY weird... On that one iPad where I can connect to AC2? If I push the app from Meraki to that iPad? It *does not* erase the data!! WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?!!!! WHY IS IT ERASING THE DATA ON ALL THE IPADS EXCEPT FOR THAT ONE?!! This is RIDICULOUS!!! ... View more

Well, this definitely seems to be a Meraki issue.  Or maybe it's an Apple DEP issue?  I'm not sure... Here's what I've done.  I have one iPad that has a DEP Profile that will let me connect to Apple Configurator 2.  (Long story on how that happened, unrelated to this problem.) Anyway, on that one iPad, because I can connect to Apple Configurator 2 (tired of typing that, let's just call it AC2) I can install version 1.3.3 of my app (which won't run) and then push the .mobileprovision file from the updated 1.3.9 version of the app, and all of a sudden the old 1.3.3 version *will* run.  At which point I can create some data in there and use it for testing and whatnot... Then I can drag-and-drop the 1.3.9 version of the app, which installs, and does not overwrite the data.  (So clearly it's the pushing of the app from Meraki that is overwriting the data somehow.)   So what I'm thinking is, if I can get our other iPads to let me connect them to AC2, I can copy the new .mobileprovision file over and run the "expired" 1.3.3 app and upload the data to our servers.  Then it won't matter if Meraki overwrites our data... I tried to turn one of our "cannot connect to AC2" iPads into a "good" one by pushing the proper DEP profile to it and then factory-resetting it -- and it will connect to AC2 then.  BUT, if I restore the iCloud backup so I can get our data back, it reverts to the old DEP profile somehow...  So I cannot get those iPads to connect to AC2 to let me install the appropriate .moboleprovision profile file...   So we're back to trying to figure out why pushing the app from Meraki overwrites the data, but pushing the app from AC2 does not... I either need to figure out how to get Meraki not to overwrite the data, or figure out how to get DEP setup to allow AC2 to work after I've restore the iCloud backup.   Thanks for any help you can give. ... I appreciate your response @HodyCrouch .   I was hoping there was some sort of setting that tells the Meraki management app to "delete the old app before installing the new one" that I could turn off -- figuring that it was deleting the old app (and its data) before installing the new app, which would account for the missing data... I will try installing the new app independent of MDM, as you suggested.  See if it does or doesn't overwrite the data...  That's a good suggestion...  Thanks.   Laurence MacNeill Ball Ground, Georgia, USA ... I am the app vendor...  😂   I wrote the app and I've never had this issue before.  It always preserves the old data when I push updates...  I had hoped it was a Meraki setting of some sort (like a "delete old app before installing new one" vs. "update app in place" setting), or perhaps an XCode setting that someone might would know, seeing as how there are probably hundreds of app developers in this forum, developing their own apps and then using MDM to push them to their devices... ... So I swear in the past when I have pushed updates to our apps before, it would preserve the data that was already in the previous version of the app... In other words, someone had used version 1.0 of the app, then I uploaded version 1.1 to Meraki and pushed it to the devices -- everyone's data stayed intact.  In fact, if we wanted to delete the data, we had to delete the app first and then install it fresh.   So why, suddenly, is the newest version of this app causing the data from the old version to be deleted completely?!   Is this a Meraki setting somewhere?  I know this isn't an iOS forum, but I'm sure lots of people here have plenty of experience with iOS -- so might there be an XCode setting or iOS setting somewhere that's causing the new version of the app to delete the data before it installs itself?   The distribution profile of my old version expired today, so I cannot run it anymore, and the new version is overwriting data that needs to be preserved.  So I'm kind of stuck here...  Any help will be appreciated... ... Yeah, I don't know why, but deleting all my certificates from my Enterprise account (and the provisioning profiles, too) did the trick.   See my final response to the thread you linked for my complete answer.   Best of luck! ... View more

I destroyed all the certs on my Enterprise account, and re-did them from scratch.  Now my Enterprise apps are installing normally.  I have no idea why that worked, but it did.   I had to get Apple involved, because somewhere along the line, my app IDs got associated with a "free" developer account somehow, and XCode wouldn't automatically sign my apps with the appropriate account -- only this "free" account, which I don't remember creating.  Apple had to delete the app IDs from that "free" account and then XCode would finally sign them properly, using the proper, paid-for Enterprise account.  It took Apple a couple of days to do that...   Anyway, all I can tell you is that it was definitely a certificate issue.  There is no logical reason for this cert issue to crop up -- the certs didn't expire for a couple of months.  But deleting all my certs, and all my provisioning profiles fixed the problem for me.   Best of luck to you. ... Which is why I thought maybe I should revoke and re-do all the certs on my Enterprise account, because XCode has been giving me weird warnings about bad certs -- when I debug programs, I *must* choose "Have XCode manage Certs automatically", but when I build for Enterprise Release I *must* manually select the cert from my computer...   Problem is, there are about 40 iPads that are currently working -- they haven't received the latest app-update.  If I revoke all my certs, those apps will stop working.  And *if* my issue is *not* this certificate issue, then I've just killed the last remaining 40 iPads we have that are still working...  So I'm *really* hesitant to do this...   ... Well, to my knowledge we're not using VPPs for anything -- all the apps we run on our devices are our in-house Enterprise apps that I've written...  These are the apps that are uninstalling themselves immediately after installing themselves.   Someone at some point in the past *did* in fact put a VPP account on our MDM setup page.  That certificate had expired, so I downloaded a new one from our Apple VPP account and uploaded it to our Meraki account.   It had no effect -- same exact "install-then-uninstall" behavior, unfortunately.   If you (or anyone else) has any other ideas, I'm all ears.   Thanks.   ... Apps will suddenly no longer install -- they install and delete themselves ...

Ok, long story coming up.  Please bear with me...   Our MDM certificate expired.  The boss had it on his calendar for renewal, but last year renewed it a couple weeks early, and forgot to change the calendar entry, so it expired...   So we created a new one, and manually re-enrolled all of our 200 iPads into Meraki -- we made sure the Meraki Systems Manager app was up-to-date, scanned in the bar-code to install the Meraki Profile, and everything seemed to go well...   Now, suddenly, two weeks later, our apps won't update...  I needed to update one of our apps, and if I push that update to any Meraki-controlled device, BOTH our apps disappear!!!  They appear for a very brief second, and then they simply disappear! I have googled this issue, and the only thing I can find is that the profile restrictions are set wrong.  So I created a profile with NO restrictions, installed Meraki onto a single iPad with that profile, and STILL the apps will not install.   So I'm thinking maybe there's suddenly an issue with the certificates for the apps somehow?  The cert for one of the apps expires in a month anyway, so I figured I'd go ahead and revoke all my certs and re-do everything from scratch for both apps.   But then I noticed - NONE of our devices are registered in the "devices" section of our Apple Enterprise account manager?  Did we need to do that?  Or is that only for testing?  Because we *do* have several test devices registered in there -- devices that we *do not* use Meraki on, but are only used for debugging/testing before we distribute the apps...   So, it all boils down to this: Do I need to register all our devices on our Apple Enterprise account in order for Meraki to work?  Or is there something else I must do, like using Apple Configurator?  Will Meraki work without Apple Configurator?   I'm just very confused as to why nothing is working anymore -- and all of the sudden, even though we've changed nothing.  If anyone has any ideas, I'm open to suggestions.   Thanks, ...
