Re: MR46E - Too low 2,4 Ghz transmit power in ETSI ?

Hi Cmr, By looking at your screen capture you shared, you have set to your minimum and maximum power settings for the radios 5dbm and 30dbm range for the auto rf. so the target power keep 12dBm. If you want increase the power you have to decide what is the best power APs can operate without any coverage holes. I would be increase the minimum power value from 5 dBm to 15dBm, if you want to see 15 dBm target power. ... View more

I often use MA-ANT-3-E6 antennes to cover ground areas if the ceiling is above 8m (in designs). Below that I'd advise you to use a downtilt omni antenna. Main advantage of the 3-E is that you get a smaller coverage cell than with an omni so if roaming is required this will give you a more predictable wireless environment.   This is a MR42E with a 3-E antennes at approx 11m in a warehouse. 3-F antennes are used for getting the signal between the racks (also mounted at 11m) and standard APs at the docks (mounted at 3m).         ... MX 16.16.2 promises fixes for some models:   Fixed an issue on MX67(C,W), MX68(W,CW), MX75, and MX85 appliances that could cause ports to occasionally disconnect and reconnect (“flap”) when connected to some devices.   ... View more

The Meraki example which I posted was during a MS Teams call from my iPhone 8 (started at 15:16 and took 6 minutes). The call was quite good (some glitches). The experience with the Gigaset smartphone was quite horrible but that's because it's crap hardware (sticking to APs up to -90+ dBm.......). But that aside when I look at the iPhone roaming the number do not make any sense to me. When I look at your example it seems to make sense. ... View more

It would depend on the criticality of what is going on the switches. Currently they are not stable enough for use in situations with servers or large traffic loads for us. They are relegated to being access layer switches for the time being. Frajnly we have been trying to figur eout what th eplan is here with regards to Cisco and these switches. It is pretty clear to me that the switch is running Catalyst IOS XE natively and the Meraki software is running in an IOS XE VM to provide the "Meraki" interface. Basically with the Meraki software VM acting as a "thunking" layer. I have verified this with Meraki support folks who had access to the catalyst stuff going on underneath for debugging purposes for some of our open tickets. Issues we had included problems with Stacking, stack members randomly reordering themselves, stacks requiring reboots for layer 3 SVI changes to take effect, issues with QoS, the 1000 vlan limitation issue, and issues with STP compatibility between catalyst IOS switches and the meraki switches. When doing forklift network upgrades for campuses, we have been having to build entire parallel networks back to the firewall to isolate the STP from the old catalyst STP or you get all kinds of weird stacking problems.   I come from a CCNP background and I have scoffed at our management's attitude that somehow this stuff is the future of networking. We deal with a lot of clients who have high turnover low skill set engineers due to low wages and living in rural areas. (Think government workers.) So they bought the Kool-Aid on this we can avoid fixing our HR problems and paying real salaries by getting this "Anybody off the street can build a GUI network" kit. The actual old Meraki hardware has been relatively trouble free. But having to debug a buggy beta product foisted on the masses with no actual debugging tools becasue they are hidden has been a HUGE time suck. Our early projects were regularly over budget and late due to trying to debug these things. Once you know the tricks like:   1. Isolate the STP instances from any Catalyst STP 2. Upon brining up an MS390, set all ports to access and VLAN 1 to avoid the 1000 vlan problem when connecting to switches that pass all vlans rather than a subset on trunks.  3. After making MS390 L3 changes reboot the stack to make sure things take effect. 4. Bring a magazine and some coffee to pass time while the switches are booting up. Bring a book if you are doing things that require multiple reboots like firmware updates.   My speculation having worked for government and large outfits is a very large company was working with cisco on a very large business deal. This deal probably stipulated port requirements, power requirements, feature requirements, or redundancy requirements that existing Merki hardware could not provide. So to not lose the contract, Cisco got a couple of engineers to hack together this kludge so they could be a merki solution but meet the hardware requirements. And once it was done they started selling this to the general public. But yeah the view here is this thing is still Beta. ... View more

This bug has been a bane in my existence for a very long time. My own MR33 luckily does not behave this way but most MR52's and MRx6 models do show the same behavior. Usually if you power the AP with a switch and set it up it works, then you power down the switchport and boot again, you're still good.  If you go onsite and use a PoE injector on a battery then gone are the settings and you need to reset the AP, reconnect it to the cloud and set it back into survey mode.   In the very least you should be able to set channel, channel width, txpower in survey mode manually without cloud connect.   The problem usually happens at the second reboot after you configured the device.  So if I have to do an APoAS I usually make sure the AP stays powered the entire day by plugging the battery in the main outlet when I take a break between walks. ... @MarcelTempelman We absolutely use the outdoor APs in harsh "indoor" environments. Poorly HVACed warehouse that's 110-120F in the summer, -15F in the winter? Yeeeep, that's an outdoor AP for days.    Doesn't stop people from accidentally selling indoor APs first, of course... sigh. ... View more

I've considered the MR84 with a stadium antenna for a wharehouse because this antenna has a narrow beam ideal for getting the signal between the racks but we went for the MR42E with the narrow patch antenna fot the initial design. Things might change, have to get feedback about what the enviroment will be in the wharehouse. Acceltext has a great range of products. The AP mount looks great. ... View more

Hello Brad,   as they say in the wireless community 'it depends'. What might work in your warehouse might suck in the other. If you have racks which are not filled to the brim or the materials stored are 'wireless friendly' (when looking at attenuation) you can have great coverage with only a few access points. Things get tricky with metal parts or with food. Omnidirectional antennas can be great in offices but can completely screw up your wifi performance in a warehouse. So it really depends...   Here's a great video about Warehouse WIFI:   https://www.wlanpros.com/resources/warehouse-wi-fi-francois-verges-glenn-cate-wlpc-phoenix-2018/   and this is a great blog post on why chosing a different antenna can make a big impact:   https://blog.theitrebel.com/2018/08/27/warehouse-wireless-design-ideas/   With kind regards,   Marcel Tempelman.   ...
