Re: SFP ports do not work

This is assuming your cabling is:  switch, LC patch cable to patch panel, fiber backbone to another patch panel, LC patch cable to 2nd switch.   On one end of one of the LC patch cables, you may need to flip the two fibers - depending on how your location is cabled.  For example, if the patch cable is a straight through cable, you can flip or cross the fibers on one end so that the patch cable is A to B.  Again, only on one end of one patch cable in the link.   Most (at least in my experience) fiber patch cables are built so that the LC connector housing is able to be removed in the field in order to flip (swap places is probably a better description) them in cases where it is needed.   I don't want to steer you down a path that you are not comfortable with doing.  I thought I would just at least mention this as a possible course of action if it is needed.  Another possibility is to contact Proline tech support. I've always had a great experience with them. ... View more

Just throwing this out there not knowing what fiber patch cables you are using.  Have you tried reversing the polarity on one end of the LC-LC patch cable? I've had to do this when using some models of Proline SFPs over the years. ... View more

I've definitely had AP with bad radios over the years.  If you haven't done so already, do a factory reset on that suspect AP (https://documentation.meraki.com/General_Administration/Support/Resetting_Cisco_Meraki_Devices_to_Factory_Defaults) and if possible, move it to a completely different location to test general connectivity and roaming.   I would also recommend contacting support and have them monitor these roaming attempts in real time.  They will assist with packet capturing which may shed some light on the issue but again, I would do a factory reset on that AP first. ... I would definitely start by disabling Client Balancing then be sure to manually assign channel and power on each AP radio (disable 2.4 if possible in your environment).  You may find in your environment (as I did in my school district) that if the 2.4 band is required, you will need to greatly reduce the power on the 2.4 radio.   You will have to determine what works for you but in my environment for example, I use a baseline power setting of 3db on the 2.4 radio and 12db on the 5 radio to get a cell size that works quite well for our high density AP deployment.  I should say that I also disabled Band Steering.   You mileage will vary based on your environment but hopefully you will be able to find a baseline setup and then make small tweaks from there. ... Yep, no change here either with Beta 28.4 - I still have the same nine MR42 APs that reduce to around 20Mb until they are restarted. They then run at full expected speed until whatever happens to reduce them to around 20Mb.  Rinse and repeat.     ... View more

It will be a sad day when I can no longer purchase the MR42.  I have over 200 of them and they have always been rock solid.  At least they will be under support until July 2026. ... View more

There is no way to do a remote factory reset that I'm aware but it might be worth calling Meraki support to verify this as well as have them look at the connectivity timeline from the back end which will provide them more detailed logs of the AP.  These logs will be more precise that what we can see in our dashboard if I recall. ... I had a similar case where one AP out of 49 did this, including randomly rebooting itself.  In my case, I did a factory reset on that problem AP and it's been fine for about a year now so there is an outside chance this could fix your problem AP as well.  Maybe worth a try. ... View more

Paul,   Assuming my case is the same, I've also been seeing reboots on seemingly random RM42 APs.    I do have an open case with tech support as they consider this to be a known issue but don't have many details other than this has been happening for me since at least firmware 25.13 but with less frequency on 26.6 it appears.  Doing a AP factory reset did not eliminate the issue for me.   The issue for me does not seem to be related to specific time duration on the AP, host switch, AP load, AP client count, etc and the reboots do not show in the Meraki Dashboard connectivity timeline.   Sorry, not much new info for you at this time.   Jon ... @Elianet - I recently made the same observation in my Dashboard.  In my case, it is a Windows 10 client that shows in the Dashboard to be 2.4 and 5 GHz capable but I know the wireless card is in fact 2.4 only (Dell Wireless 1801).     To be fair, I've been using Meraki equipment and Dashboard since 2013 and this is the only time I've seen a client's capability reported incorrectly in Dashboard but I do now keep a closer eye on what is being reported. ... @dalmiroy2k - If I recall correctly, selecting Disable on the 2.4 radio does disable it for any client usage but the AP will still use that band for AP to AP meshing traffic even if the AP is in Gateway mode.   Perhaps Meraki or someone else in the community can confirm this.  Don't want to start any rumors... ... The USB adapter is sold by StarTech but is actually the following chip and driver:   Realtek RTL8811AU Wireless LAN 802.11ac USB 2.0 Network Adapter (Driver version: 1030.11.503.2016)   The driver was updated in 2016, 2017 and 2019 (as noted by the last four digits in the driver version).  In my case, the driver from 2016 and 2019 work correctly but version 2017 has the same connectivity problem as was described in this conversion by a couple people.    Hope this helps. ... Just to expand on something that was asked by another in this conversation.   I went through this with the exact symptoms you describe on Windows only systems.  In my case it turned out to be the specific version of the wireless card driver (USB wireless in my case).  I had a slightly out of date driver installed but proved out that both the driver version just prior to the one installed and the latest driver that was recently released work correctly.  No Meraki or Windows settings were changed, only the driver version was changed.   Since either rolling back or upgrading the wireless driver on the PCs, I have not had a single connection issue and that was more that a month ago so I'm pretty confident in the solution as this computer lab is used heavily every day.   Hope this helps. ... Greetings,   I will be wall mounting four MR52 APs in a high school gymnasium and am looking for any recommendations for protective cages or enclosures.  I've been hesitant to go with a standard metal cage like would be typical for protecting clock, alarms, etc in a gym as I don't know what impact it would have on wireless.   Any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.   Thank you, Jon ...
