LAN Static Routes

Just set up my first set up Meraki Go equipment at a small health/wellness doctor's office this weekend.  The question "does the GX support client VPN?" came up and I found that answer was NO.  So I thought maybe I could put a Rasberry Pi VPN server on the LAN and solve client VPN that way, but the only way that would work is if I could set a LAN static route on the GX pointing the client VPN subnet to the Pi's LAN IP...  and I can't find anything in documentation or the community.  I'm afraid the answer is also NO... which might make this my first and last Meraki Go deployment.     Anyone know if it is possible to set a LAN static route on a Meraki Go GX? ... Re: Community Challenge: VLAN Explained

Imagine that network devices are a bunch people of several different job roles in a big room talking.   Imagine the noise- it’s hard to hear and people have to repeat themselves often in order to be heard.   Worst of all, when someone is looking for a specific person that they haven’t yet met, everyone in the room has to stop talking and listen to the announcement: “John D- please raise your hand so that Jane C can find you.”.   Now - imagine that the huge group of people is separated out in a logical, orderly fashion- accountants here, engineers there, etc.   Then soundproof rooms are installed for each group.   Each room has just one single door.   Each person in each room is assigned to a specific spot in the room.   And each room has an assigned room attendant.   Now- when one accountant wants to talk another they know exactly where to go in the room and they can do so directly without having to speak over the engineers.   If however an accountant needs to send a message to someone in HR, it is much easier now for the accountant to figure out that the person they need to talk to isn’t in the room.   The accountant will simply hand the message off to their room attendant.   The room attendant knows how to reach every other group, so he will deliver the message to HR’s room attendant who will deliver the message to the specific person in HR.   The soundproof rooms are VLANs.   The assigned spots in each room are switch ports.   And the room attendants are routers. ... Re: MX64 & MX65 Firmware Upgrades Hanging / Missing Configurations

Sorry for the late reply. While Meraki stepped up and made sure we received MX65s that didn’t exhibit the problem (they pre-tested every MX65 before shipping) they didn’t specifically disclose the problem. Generically, they attributed it to a malfunctioning component part within the MX from a specific manufacturer. ... View more

MX64 & MX65 Firmware Upgrades Hanging / Missing Configurations

Two weeks ago we started seeing issues with MX64s and MX65s that so far Meraki has no explanation for.  We unbox the MX, connect it to the internet and we may see one of these behaviors:     The MX firmware upgrade process is taking an hour or longer to complete.  Normally this process takes about 20 minutes.   The status light on the MX indicates the firmware update is complete (goes from blinking white to solid white) but the MX is missing its VLAN configuration. The status light on the MX never stops blinking.  The MX has internet connectivity and cloud connectivity (if only partial) but the MX is unable to pass inter-VLAN and VPN traffic.   These issues are about to bring to hault a massive MX deployment to one of the largest C-Store chains in the US.  We have support cases open under two organizations for these behaviors. For what it's worth, the customer orgs that are having these problems are on n82 and n219.meraki.com.   If anyone else has experienced any of these issues we would appreciate you letting us know.     ... Mirroring a VLAN

Had a customer ask me today if he could mirror (or span) a whole VLAN as opposed to just specific ports.  Documentation is pretty clear that you can mirror specific ports or a range of ports on the same switch (or switch stack).  Looking for confirmation that currently there is no capability to mirror a whole VLAN.  Thanks! ... Guess it was wishful thinking - hoping the MX would be smart enough to know the destination was in the routing table via AutoVPN. Client VPN definitely is a possibility although I’m not sure our customer/their vendor will go for it. Thanks Philip! ... View more

1:Many NAT to VPN hosts

Working on planning out the conversion of a long-time Cisco ISR/ASA customer over to MX.  The customer is a C-Store chain that has an outside vendor monitor fuel tank guages and today they do it through 1:Many NATs through an ASA.  So if the vendor browses to [public IP]:[port # xyz041] the ASA performs the translation and routes the traffic over to the MPLS WAN router and on out to the store over MPLS and they reach store number 41's tank guage web UI.    The question is - moving over to a MX VPN network, can I configure theses 1:Many NATs on a MX VPN hub (NAT mode, not one-armed) and refer to hosts available via AutoVPN?  If it's not supported it's not that big of deal as we are still going to use the ASA for a couple things; but if the MX will support it we'd rather do it that way.   I've configured a 1:Many NAT on a VPN hub and referred to a LAN IP that doesn't actually live as a physically connected network on the ASA... and Dashboard didn't object to the config.  I called support and I got a weak "this isn't supported" answer - weak in that the support agent didn't sound too terribly confident in that answer.  It was more like "if it doesn't work then we can't support it".    ... Dashboard URLs

Hey there - we are working on Dashboard API integration and among other things we're creating a monitoring engine that will open NOC tickets as necessary and I want to make our NOC techs' lives as easy as possible by dropping in a Dashboard URL in to the NOC ticket for the network or device in question.  I don't see any way to do this with the calls currently available in Dashboard API.  If you look at the page source on a Appliance Status Page you'll find a variable called "Mkiconf.ng_eid" that appears to the be what I'll call the network's sub-device group identifier.  And this "eid" is the one thing I need to be able to dynamically generate a Dashboard URL.    Anyone have any tips?     ... Hi there Community.  My name is Joel and I work for a managed network an security service provider SageNet based in Tulsa, OK with offices also in Reston, VA, Marietta, GA, Chicago, IL, and Philadelphia, PA.  I've been an avid Meraki fan, user and champion since 2011.  I'm in our sales engineering team so I work closely with our sales teams, customers, and our network engineering team to design solutions for customers and of course, I see most things through green colored glasses so to speak.  The majority of our customers are multi-site, distributed C-Store, restaurant and retail chains. And I was honored to have attended the March 2017 Meraki Masters session.  Cheers! ... View more
