Hi @kneuw, I have had quite a few in this state recently, but the DEP profile still goes down. Thank you, Peter James

Hi @smeader88, Agreed - A change freeze period for corporate environments should be a feature! Support can PIN if they want, but I suspect they will be bored after the 200th device 😄 Thank you, Peter James

Hi @remixedcat, I used to work very closely to a compliance team who insisted their screens were dimmed to the lowest and everyone always wondered what they were looking at. So funny watching them scramble their windows closed when I remoted on silently from the windows session server to assist them with an IT ticket. Lesson...If you are trying to pretend like you are working, at least have a document open you can hot-key to 🙂 Thank you, Peter James

Hi @Synerix, Meraki did not depreciate this feature very well and there was little advice their support team could provide. We ended up with a big error on our live environment UI. See: https://www.chromium.org/administrators/policy-list-3#IncognitoModeEnabled for the depreciated feature. Thanks for the heads up that the replacement (https://www.chromium.org/administrators/policy-list-3#IncognitoModeAvailability) might/does not work! Thank you, Peter James

Hi All, It appears Meraki forgot to give the 'Read Only' access to the 'Wireless Health' section of the Wi-Fi. I have found a workaround to this problem;. 1. Click on a network to view the Access points 2. Change the URL in the browser from "manage/nodes/new_list?timespan=86400" to "/manage/network_health" 3. Play nice when you only see 75% of authentication requests succeed 4. Email them to change the WPA encryption mode to 'WPA2 Only' 5. Watch the 75% raise to 95%+ 6. Show the customer you fixed a possible connectivity issue 6. Come back and Kudo this post Thank you, Peter James

Hi @Synerix, Are you using the new or old interface? What browser? On the new interface (that has a 'view old version' link at the top), I initially used the search box...but then quickly released the root forward to via the 'Add App' button. Have you tried directly typing in the package name? For example https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.office.excel the bit of interest here is the last bit "com.microsoft.office.excel". There are some features on the platform that I have found that need this manually typed. Thank you, Peter James

Hi @Synerix, We also found this was an issue for the Systems Manager App version 5.0.3. Prior to this we were using Systems Manager 4.2.2 and from 5.0.4 it appears to have been resolved. This was very frustrating for ourselves but finally worked it out ourselves; after we started again and re-attempted this...only to release a new Systems Manager version had been released. (Systems Manager 5.0.4 was released 21/11/2018 in the GMT AM) Thank you, Peter James

Hi All, Sometimes I just want to run an ad hoc API query and here is how I do it: 1. Login to the Meraki SM portal 2. Select which Organisation I want to run my ad hoc script against 2. Copy which meraki server is listed in the URL e.g. nXXX (where X is a number) 3. Duplicate the Google Chome Window 4. Enter into the URL the server from step 2 and then the API command I want e.g. https://[Step 2].meraki.com/api/v0/organizations = API output of organisations I have access to This will continue to work as long as you stay logged in or until you change which Organisation you access to on the dashboard. If you change the organisation in the original browser window the output will simply go blank. I am curious what others think about this - Is this a trick or a possible vulnerability? Thank you, Peter James

@vassallon That is a good idea! If Location is not turned on during setup, the Date/Time defaults to California time. Our requirements are two fold: - Be able to tell a device which TImezone to use remotely. - Block the ability to change this. Thank you, Peter James

@vassallon - That is so true! Mid deployment of a new iOS or App version roll out and BANG a new iOS is out! Did the regression testers go home already? ....Wake them up! I think iOS11 is a version Apple may want to put behind them quickly. I have read a number of articles (leaked/Ex Employee) that indicate features were taking a back seat for a while, so stability could be the main focus. But there is still somethings that need tidied up: - Inability to see or set the Date/Time locality of a device and restrict access. - Inability to see if the Bluetooth is turned on or nott, but you can turn it on or off. Thanks again! Peter James

@vassallon - Thanks! "The countdown is iOS specific to the release date of the iOS, there is nothing specific to the device." - Ahhh! That is the missing piece! I was aware this is a feature of 11.3+ only and I think I have just been overthinking this. Was there ever an option released that would allow you to set the version you want to upgrade to? Or did I maybe make that up in my over thinking? Thanks, Peter

@vassallon Thanks! So at 91 days it does not start downloading by itself? Its just a normal notification about the update? I am not still entirely sure how the 90 days works. Say I have a device on 11.3 and the 90 day profile was on. And say 11.4 was released 10 days after, does this mean the device is still on its original 90 days? E.g. 80 days left? And now lets say we are on day 91 and it has detected 11.4.1 is now available. What happens? Appreciate your help on this - Apple really need to start providing some FAQ's around this stuff! Peter

Hi, A couple of questions around 'Delay OS software updates (Supervised iOS 11.3)': - If I have it set to 90 days, does it just go ahead and download/install after 90 days? - If a new iOS version is released within the 90 days, does the count start again? Thank you, Peter James

@Jacko Admittedly it does make me laugh that Meraki do not default give SM App licenses via Apple VPP by default. Apps in Meraki either come from the iStore or an Enterprise (.ipa) App. The downside to an enterprise App is that it expires yearly, so Meraki are forced to use the iStore. And the only way to get around requiring an Apple ID per device is via Apple VPP. So yes its manual, but only manual on the initial setup. --- Enrol device in to DEP via AC -> Move to correct Server -> Assign DEP Profile -> Turn device -> Skip setup questions > Device received all the Apps/settings and now has full restrictions and control by YOU. Previously: Turn on Device -> Sign in to Apple ID -> Download SM App -> Install each individual App -> Set all required settings -> Device has no restrictions applied unless you manually set them up. The added benefit with DEP vs the SM App are iOS updates control and you can push silent App updates to the devices without requiring the end-user to accept them. (Pre-iOS 11.2 you need to change the focus out of the App on the front and then Apply. From 11.2 you just push the update). The additional benefit over the SM App is the 'Lost Mode', if you ever need to locate a device trigger this. It will then enable the location service on the device, overriding any previous settings. Then disable it once its found, and the location service will disable again (if it was this way previously). I could give a whole lecture on why DEP enrolled devices are better, but the main benefit really does come in around 100+ devices. I wonder how you managed App / iOS updates previously, or did you?! 🙂

@Jacko Yes, this allows the device to report back every 15 minutes and gets further information back such as the device LAN IP. When you dealing with hundreds of sites and customers moving around sites, and swapping devices the the LAN IP is useful. -> This App you would be certainly best deploying via Apple VPP.

@Jacko Yes, in the System Manager unless you have the profile you are using set to 'All Devices' you will need to tag up. But in regard to the Core DEP Profile settings / missing setup steps. In System Manager -> DEP, tick the devices and click 'Assign Settings'. You will see the below screen and add your choices. We allow pairing, tick supervise, make it mandatory and untick 'Removable'. And skip everything BUT location services.

@Jacko Having to move it to the right server on deploy.apple.com is one of the downsides to the AC approach. The alternative is that you link in the AC DEP Server to Meraki and only use that one, it does work 🙂 No problem. Honestly, once it clicks you will never be able to go back to Non-MDM! I now cringe at that thought...

@Jacko Haha I ended up the same situation, on deploy.apple.com manually add the serial to the connected server. And move the other two serials down to it too. Unfortunately you will then need to manually factory reset.
