It does, however it's probably not a good idea as far as best practices goes. But I've upgraded single AP's before to test things (bug issues etc.) before pushing out to the rest (via supports assistance). Usually this is within the same firmware train, so going from 26 to 27 is a big jump possibly, so i would avoid it personally (in a production environment that is), but I think you'll be fine at home =P ... To clarify also. I used to only have a single connection from MX to CORE 1. Since the MX doesn't support port-channeling etc.  Wanted to keep things simple.   Had it like that for almost 2 years, until CORE 1 at a site had an issue, which ended up taking down the guest network which the MX was the gateway of etc.  Not a huge deal to have onsite move the cable, but an annoyance none the less. I use a single MX84 at many sites, connected to two 9K switches running VPC/HSRP for L3 etc. What I usually do is on CORE2, I'll set the port the MX connect to to have a lower spanning-tree cost, so core 2 is the one that blocks the port. spanning-tree vlan XXX cost 10 Never had any issues yet. Tested failover from both sides, unplugging cables, powering off one 9k etc. Fail-over is pretty quick and I prefer having some form of redundancy vs nothing. The issue might be the 3rd radio scanning and hearing DFS on one of the four 20MHz channels that the 80MHz comprises of, so it never really has an opportunity to go back. Client Balancing is more of a suggestion, and it tends to hurt more than help when it comes to roaming. However if you don't have any voice/real-time apps being used you can give it a shot. You might be better off checking the access points locations and power settings. The best way to shape a cell size is via power so see what it is running at and you might want to lower it. ...
