Slow speed test from my.meraki.com

Hi guys,

We have 9172 APs, recently replaced MR33's, if I go to my.meraki.com and do a speed test I get less than 2Mb/s from multiple devices. If I test to another speed test I get 100Mb/s plus (expected) or iperf to another device I get 900Mb/s (expected). I am pretty sure this worked fine on MR33 APs and I would get the expected results of 500Mb/s or more.

Thanks,

James

The local status page speed test has long been inaccurate, and as of MR 32.1.4 it's been removed.

The speed test simply tested the speed from the AP's local status page to the client, it does not test internet throughput speed, or speed from Meraki Dashboard.

The speed test on my.meraki.com doesn’t measure throughput between your client and the AP or LAN. Instead, it tests connectivity from the AP to Meraki’s cloud servers over the WAN.

Are you already running the latest firmware version?

I am not a Cisco Meraki employee. My suggestions are based on documentation of Meraki best practices and day-to-day experience.

I'm not sure that is correct, in past experience with MR3's this test has far exceeded our internet connection, so was definitely a LAN/AP test and not a speed test to Meraki. The wording even states this.

And yes running the latest firmware.

OK, wasn't aware of that, thats a shame, as it was a very useful way of testing performance without the need for iPerf setup on the network.

I agree!  Recently updated some of our networks to 31.1.8 and the newer AP's (MR56) are getting ~1 Mbps down on LSP.  The older AP's with 30.7.1 are still getting normal speeds.  We've been using the LSP speed test for years, a shame to see it go.
