MR33 slows down a connection speed

Hi Everyone

I have FTTH 1Gbps. After attending webinars I got MX64 , MS120-8 and MR33.

My topology is FTTH(Huawei) > Synology RT2600ac > MS120-8 > MR33

The problem I have is that MR33 slows down a connection speed.

I get 530Mbps on my old iPhone7 when am connected directly to RT2600ac.

But when am connected to MR33 then am getting 130Mbps top.

Speedtest I did in same place with same distance to MR33 and RT2600ac and nothing blocked the radio.

I had to remove MX64 from my network as it was capping my FTTH speed to 250Mbps.

Can you please advise me what to do to get higher speed results while connected to MR33?

thanx

The iPhone7 is a 2SS Wifi5 device. When you get a throughput of 530 MBit/s, then it's likely that the RT2600ac has 160MHz wide channels configured.

There is a rule of thumb when to use 160MHz channels: Only use them when you are living on a lonely island in a cove on your own.

The MR33 was probably using a 40 MHz channel. Without too many nearby neighbouring APs, you should configure the MR33 to 80MHz and test again. Also configure the RT2600ac to 80 MHz and compare the results.

hi @KarstenI  ,  I forgot to add that MR33 already was on 80mhz , and yes indeed RT2600ac was on 80+80mhz

but after amending channel width on RT2600ac to 80mhz I've got same results 😞

btw I see maybe 2-3 wifi 5ghz networks so yes , I live on lonely island

Ok, 530 MBit/s is impressive for 80 MHz and 130 MBit/s is definitely less than possible.

Can you install one of the free WLAN scanners and capture the Beacons of both the RT2600 and the MR33? There has to be a difference.

I did a test , to my RT2600ac I connected old Cisco AP AIR-SAP1602I-x-K9.

The Speedtest result was 180mbps download.

So yeah , there is a difference.

the problem was that I set my wifi on channel 140 which dont support 80/160 mhz width.

once I moved on channel 100 then I got over 400mbps speed on my iPhone7

however I noticed another issue , in spite of UNII-3 has been signed in my country , Meraki still dont let me use that channels 😞 but thats a different story
