Ground floor and Loft office Signal issue

Hi everyone, Has anyone ever encountered an issue like mine where users in the LOFT office is connecting to the Ground floor office and is having intermittent issues with the connection?

We've tried adjusting the TX power of each of the APs in the Ground and LOFT area but nothing seems to fix the issue.

We are currently running 5ghz on our colleague SSID.

What firmware version are you running? Here are some useful links.

If you haven't done so already, I recommend that you perform a site survey of your Wi-Fi network.

You can also contact Meraki support.

We already adjusted the TX power but it doesn't seem to work.

I suggest you do a site survey, 90% of the time the problem is related to a poorly designed wireless network.

I also recommend you open a support case.

One approach you can try is to increase the minimum bitrate to "encourage" clients to roam more aggressively to closer APs.

I've had something similar, we had clients connecting to APs on the opposite side of our building. The way we ended up fixing it was to disable 'Client balancing' under Wireless->Radio Settings->RF Profile

I’m sensing this is a home office /wfh installation.  As mentioned by @PatWruk @disable Client Load Balancing which should be a quick and dirty resolution here.

if a bigger install then as @alemabrahao states a wireless survey would help.

Client balancing is already turned off for us.

TX power is always a tricky thing as you want to allow for a slight overlap otherwise you have dead spots but  not so much that devices connect to the wrong AP as in your case.

If this is a simple work from home I would unplug the loft AP and the adjust the TX on the ground unit until the loft devices can only just see it, then do the opposite.

If it's a larger office then you will need a site survey.

I would suggest doing one thing at a time to see what actually resolves the issue rather than it being an unknown. Let us know how you get on.

Yes.  Go into RF Profiles:

https://documentation.meraki.com/MR/Radio_Settings/RF_Profiles

Create a new profile using the "Open Office Profile".  Assign it to your APs.

99% likely, this will solve your problem.
