CW9166 Dual 5Ghz Mode

CW916X FAQs

The above link has the following:
"the third radio of the CW9166 also has the advantage of being able to be configured either as a 6 GHz or 5 GHz radio"

Is that automatic when 6ghz isn't enabled, not supported in Meraki mode, or do I need to do something? I can't find further mention of it.

It's mentioned here https://documentation.meraki.com/MR/MR_Installation_Guides/CW9166_Installation_Guide#Third_Radio_and...

I agree it should also be mentioned in the RF profile doc and will let the doc team know we should update it.

It's not automatic. You have to set the preference for the 9166 and MR57

I can't remember exactly where it is but I'd suspect it'll be in the RF profile... that's where I'd put it.

Yes, that's it. It was defaulted to 5Ghz on this non greenfield setup.

It does indeed, ours all run two 5GHz radios and select separate non overlapping channels.  We didn't need to set anything as it does default to 2x5GHz radios.

@RavKam the CW9166I has internal antennas, what are you looking to use an external antenna for?

CW9166i has 3 radios and appropriate set of antennas for 2.4, 5, and 6G
but if I'd like to use the third radio in 5G mode I need (?) to have a separate set of 5G- capable antennas -correct me if I'm wrong ...
Therefore I assume I need to connect a separate antenna using DART cable ...

Hello, No, you don´t need an external antenna if you want dual 5GHz radios.  The 6GHz is an XOR radio that operates in either 6GHz or 5GHz, and it has its own internal antennas regardless in which mode it operates.

@Purroy I'm pretty sure it is the 6GHz radio that can operate at 5GHz.  In dual 5GHz mode you have 2.4 + 5 + 5

All internal antennas, no need for anything external unless you want the GPS/GNSS locator module.
