Port channel using MS warm spare

Hi guys,

 

I have a question about warm spare issue.

This is a sample diagram.

 

ISP Modem--MX1--(Warm Spare)--MX2--MS1--(Warm Spare)--MS2--MR1--MR2

 

I want to set redundancy setting for safe operation.

 

Q1. In case of sample diagram, does MS device need to set port channel setting for MX1 and MX2 port ?

 

Q2. Please confirm whether my understanding of connecting physical cable is correct or not as below.

 

ISP Modem---MX1

ISP Modem---MX2

MX1---MX2(Warm Spare)

MX1---MS1

MX1---MS2

MX2---MS1

MX2---MS2

MS1---MS2(Warm Spare)

MS1---AP1

MS2---AP2

The MX series does not support part-channelling - so no, don't configure a port channel to them.

 

Yes that cabling seems fine.  Are you going to stack your two MS together using the stacking ports - or keep them separate?

Thank you for your answer.

In my understanding to set MS redundancy, there are two options.
one is just warm spare between two MS device without any setting.
another is stacking setting using stacking cable between two MS device.

In this case just warm spare without stacking cable.
Does it work well ?

There are benefits both ways, but I generally prefer stacking as it is easier.  You have a single instance of spanning tree.  You have a single config which either stack member can take over.
