Is there a plan to bring back cloud managed upgrades of cloud monitored switches?

It looks to me like the transition to native IOS-XE for Meraki monitoring has resulted in the loss of the ability to upgrade monitored switches from the dashboard.  The documentation also seems to stop at 17.12 with the supported versions.

Has anyone seen this ability in 17.15 or greater and does anyone know if this feature died with the container, or is coming back?

The last day of support for cloud monitored Catalyst switches is January 31, 2026 and cloud monitoring features will no longer function for switches that have not transitioned to Cloud Management with IOS XE. These switches will show offline in the Meraki dashboard but there will be no impact to device operations.

Ah, I'm actually talking about cloud management - configuration source:device (which to me is still cloud monitoring but I guess technically not).

In that case should those upgrades be possible as cloud managed devices?  I must admit I hadn't thought to try that... 🤔

Interesting.

I'm yet to rollover my cloud monitored switches to 'cloud management - device configuration' but given the steps for transition involves a cloud managed upgrade to 17.15.3+ (see link below), I assumed that the feature was available post transition too.

Config source device is the current name for what was monitoring. Many still call it monitoring probably because it's simply easier to say 🙂

As for the firmware mgmt of config source device. PM is aware of the need and hopefully the feature will return.

Hi everyone, We recognize that firmware management is currently not supported on IOS XE 17.15 or later with our new Cloud Management platform with Configuration Source: Device. We understand this is an important limitation and want to assure you that we are actively working to introduce this soon. Thank you for your patience as we enhance the platform and address this gap.

I would like to transition from monitored to managed, but the one thing that is keeping me from doing so is I have to rebuild my core-stack configuration from the ground up in the meraki dashboard.  Meraki does not have a supported solution for migrating or importing your IOSXE config into the dashboard.  The migration process involves a complete system reset of your configuration.  I think my only option is to get a second stack and start those as Meraki managed and slowly build the config manually, then schedule a cutover.  It is a bummer.

Yes it is a bit of a non starter for many networks, I have a site with 40+ C9300-48UXMs and am currently moving them only to device configured as we don't have the manpower to convert them to cloud configured.  I am sure a conversion will come, but no idea when.
