Catalyst Meraki Monitoring Triggers False Alert in Dashboard for Around 1 Min to 5 Mins Randomly

Hi Guys,

I have a stacked Catalyst C9500-24Y4C switch with Meraki monitoring enabled to track its status through the Meraki dashboard. However, over the past month, we’ve been receiving random offline alerts lasting between 1 to 5 minutes — for example, it may occur today, then not again for several days. We've reviewed the firewall traffic logs, as the switch connects upstream to the firewall, and found no signs of blocked traffic. All switch logs appear normal as well. We've also restarted the TLS tunnel used for Meraki monitoring, but the issue persists. This is becoming frustrating and concerning — could this be a bug on Meraki’s dashboard? Has anyone experienced a similar issue, and if so, how was it resolved?

Thanks

Kind of a big deal

It would be a good idea to open a support case with Meraki.

I am not a Cisco Meraki employee. My suggestions are based on documentation of Meraki best practices and day-to-day experience.

Please, if this post was useful, leave your kudos and mark it as solved.

Hello @Parameswaran,

When you say "offline", are you referring to management traffic, data traffic, or both?

Are you experiencing any packet loss to adjacent devices on that same VLAN?

What other performance issues are seen during those "offline" periods?

This is what i meant offline in meraki dashboard, please note that the device is actually up and running, no packet loss, no network interuptions, no FW blocking, and no performance issues as well just in monitor mode the switch shows down.

Here to help

Hi,

same happens here repeatedly. The situation occurs mostly simultaniously on all Catalyst switches in the organization.

Functionality of the devices is always given. It is just a problem showing in the dashboard.

Sometimes, restarting the TLS tunnel helps. Sometimes after day all switches show online again without any interaction from my side.

Case has been raised, logs have been sent but no solution was found.

Firewall logs show always allowed commincation, no blocks, no drops.

The issue is clear on the backend from my perspective.
