C9300 with IOS-XE 17.18.2 - set static IP

I went to set a static IP address for the new switch by clicking on the pencil via the LAN IPv4 address like we normally do for the switches we have running CS firmware but it then comes back saying :

Configuring a static IP requires the following steps:

1) Hit save to be redirected to Routing & DHCP page

2) Configure your uplink interface appropriately

3) Save Uplink interface to commit changes

I have tried this but seems I am missing something - anyone able to shed any light on if you have done this and if so how ?

When running IOS-XE natively you have to use an SVI for management of the switch.

So if for example your VLAN for switch management is VLAN 30 then just click the redirect to the Routing and DHCP page and there you can create that SVI on that switch on VLAN 30.   When creating that interface since it is the first SVI on the switch you will also be able to fill in the DNS and default gateway fields.

I tried this today on a 9300L and it just doesn't work.  The GUI looks good, the switch is all green, but the management IP stays on the old DHCP address.  If I go to the cloud CLI I can see that the two SVIs don't actually get created on the switch and in fact since trying this, nothing else I change (port access VLAN, port shutdown etc.) reflects on the cloud CLI.  However the ports do open and shut...

Something is very wrong with the cloud to switch communication...

I was actually trying to set the management IP to 'static' with it using an SVI to see if I got the same Bad IPv4 alert that I have on some 9300Xs that were upgraded from CS 17.2.3 using scenario 4a.  They are working perfectly (apart from the big warning triangle) and looking at the cloud CLI they are configured correctly with the VLAN set for the management interface etc.  However that VLAN in the GUI doesn't have the preferred box ticked...  Perhaps another cloud to switch communication error...
