LLDP info shown by MV cameras is incorrect when connected to non-Cisco LAN

I have a number of cameras at a site that are connected to non-Cisco/Meraki switches that are managed by a 3rd party.

The LLDP info that is being displayed on some of the cameras is the name of another camera appended with /Port 0.

A wireshark pcap showed the camera ports receiving CDP data from other MV cameras on the site so we can only assume this is the cause of the issue as the 3rd party switches don't understand CDP and are hence flooding the CDP packets out of every port. The cameras receive this and report that as the LLDP info.

Has anyone else come across a similar issue, and more importantly, if so, how did you resolve it?

TIA

In general this is because as you say the switches don't understand the data and are just forwarding it. You'd need to consult the documentation on the switches in question to see if there is a way to block it. In general it's just multicast to a destination mac of 01-00-0c-cc-cc-cc so if your switches are able to block that it should solve the issue.

Thanks for the reply @Mloraditch

The annoying thing is all the MV documentation and dashboad displays say the cameras use LLDP - it appears that the camera ports also receiving CDP packets screws this.

You have both identified the issue.

THere is only one way to remove this cosmetic issue, and it involves spending money.  🙂
