Suggestion: Make it harder to change MX operation mode from Routed to Passthrough in dashboard

Hi,

we've had couple cases where our specialist accidentally clicked Meraki MX Firewall from routed mode to passthrough mode in the dashboard. The issue is that you don't even have to hit the radion button, you just have to click anywhere on the addressing and vlan page near the mode configuration. It is easily missclicked and saved with other configuration.

We suggest that you improve this UI element to make it harder to accidentally change MX operation mode.

Best regards,

Hmmmm, I disagree. Maybe your “specialist” needs some training or should t be allowed administrative access to your network.

@JoniM I'm with @DarrenOC here.  You have to click on the paragraph about passthrough mode to change it and the radio button clearly changes to indicate what you have done:

If you do accidentally click on it, the whole routing section of the page disappears and nothing actually happens unless you then press Save changes:

I'd say it is perfectly good UI design and works well on a phone or computer.  Would you have it changed so you had to click on just the radio button in case someone doesn't look at the screen before pressing Save...?

My biggest issue with the UI is that you don't have to actually click the radio button to change the mode. Also considering the fact that his config can and will cause your network to go down, I don't think it's very good UI design. Also you can click next to the text as well. I do agree that occasion for this is kinda rare and a person configuring should be aware of the shortcomings of the UI, but it doesn't mean it couldn't or shouldn't be better.

This is an option that should not be configured often. Usually it's an option that needs to be configured once during the lifetime of the MX. Currently this mode config dominates the addressing & vlans config page even though you never shouldn't touch it after the initial configuration.

By very default, I'd prefer if this option had a double confirmation like mentioned above.

@JoniM : Whenever you clicked on the mode (routed or Passthrough), you always get the notification to save the changes before proceed further as told by @cmr . When you say double notification, you are saying, the system asked for another question "Are you sure to do the changes" make the system dual click. Meraki is trying to simplify the things with less clicks to deploy. I would suggest you to provide the administrator access to limited person for the dashboard and provide read only access to others.

The reason I am saying this as it is difficult to have multiple opinions to simplify the Dashboard as some required one click and other multiple. Hope you understand the sensitivity here.

I'll agree with the OP.

Changing a mode of a device is something important. And since they can offer a double confirmation for s2s route overlap, they can offer also a double confirmation for changing the mode.

I'll disagree with UCert regarding the rights, especially with the lack of access rights granularity (full or readonly only) Meraki offers.
