Multicast support MX series

Judging from https://community.meraki.com/t5/Security-SD-WAN/IGMP-Snooping-on-MX-devices/m-p/40340#M10333 and the doc https://documentation.meraki.com/General_Administration/Other_Topics/Multicast_support, the MX series seems to completely lack support for IP multicast?!

Is that correct? And do plans exist to overcome this issue?

Kind of a big deal

You’re correct it doesn’t support IGMP or any multicast control features, but it will forward multicast traffic as if it was a broadcast within the same broadcast domain (I.e. within the same VLAN).

I can’t say whether there is anything in development for the MX with regards to multicast, and Meraki is unlikely to say so in a public forum. I’d say there most likely isn’t, it’s more an MS feature, but you’ll need to check with your local AM/SE for a definitive answer.

I personally think because Meraki is doing SD-WAN between sites they should support PIM-SM and the forwarding of Multicast between sites.

I can image some voice music streaming from the DC or phone on hold music this way.
