MX95 Throughput discrepancy

Hello,

Meraki documentation has different values for throughput and I am not sure which is right.

Datasheet (Last updated Jan 15, 2025) https://documentation.meraki.com/MX/MX_Overviews_and_Specifications/MX95%2F%2F105_Datasheet says

Maximum VPN throughput: 2.5 Gbps
Max site-to-site VPN throughput: 800 Mbps

MX sizing princeiple (Last updated Apr 10, 2025) https://documentation.meraki.com/MX/MX_Sizing_Information/MX_Sizing_Principles says
Single Tunnel VPN Throughput RFC2544 1400 Byte : 2.0 Gbps

Multi-Tunnel VPN Throughput RFC2544 1400 Byte: 2.5 Gbps

MX95/MX105 Series Hardware Installation Guide ( Last updated Feb 18, 2025) https://documentation.meraki.com/MX/MX_Installation_Guides/MX95%2F%2FMX105_Series_Hardware_Installat... says

Maximum VPN Throughput: 1 Gbps

Which is right?

The sizing guidelines has this warning - the performance data applies to 18.2:

So I'd go with that one, but bear in mind they are lab results...

I agree that it is confusing, but if I were to guess I would say that the second one is correct because it references RFC2544.

I am not a Cisco Meraki employee. My suggestions are based on documentation of Meraki best practices and day-to-day experience.

Please, if this post was useful, leave your kudos and mark it as solved.

Could be, yeah.

Still, I'd say they should clearly update the documentation. Don't wanna mess up sizing, etc.

And If multiple related/similar values are shown in the same article, they should also include more detailed description of each.

Thanks for the reply, tho.

I am not 100% sure but I believe Meraki adjusted their sizing principles when they went to MX 19.x because of the under the hood changes or improvements.  I could be mistaken.  I believe the two variables exist for those who might be on the OLDER MX releases and what the new MX releases changes bring.

I believe their could have been information that indicates those sentiments but do understand the confusion it brings.

Hopefully that brings some understanding as to WHY there are two different sizing guides.  Perhaps the Meraki employees can shed more light on that aspect...but that is what I believe to be the case.

The datasheet has this warning at the top, which has been there for some time:

So I would ignore the numbers in that one!

So I'd ignore those numbers as well.
