MX84 eos

Hello

I have a question, I want to purchase a 3-year MX84 license. On the Cisco eCommerce website it shows that the LIC-MX84-SEC-3YR license is available, but if I check the Meraki End-of-Life (EOL) Products and Dates document

https://documentation.meraki.com/General_Administration/Other_Topics/Meraki_End-of-Life_(EOL)_Produc...

It tells me that the end of support will be the "End-of-Support Date" Oct 31, 2026

Can I choose the 3-year license and have it end in 2028 or is the "End-of-Support Date" more relevant?

Regards

Do you have a meraki rep?  Discussing the specifics of your case would like be the best course of action so they can review your setup/configuration and licensing model to suggest the best course of action.  They do this on a day to day basis and are typically really well suited to handle the specific questions (and pitfalls) you are seeking answers to.  Answers provided have been based on the limited information you've shared or asked without knowing the specifics of your organizations/networks.

The device-specific licenses corresponding to discontinued hardware products will be available for purchase after the EOS Date unless the license(s) is/are listed in the “End-of-Life Products” list provided below. Cisco Meraki typically provides support for a given product for a period of five (5) years after the EOS date. If the discontinued product is not available for replacement or repair of an in-warranty return, Cisco Meraki may replace the discontinued product with functionally equivalent hardware and transfer the remaining license term from the replaced product to the replacement hardware.

Let's take an example, if I purchase the 3-year license today, January 15, 2025, will my MX84 have support and functionality until January 2028 regardless of the EOS which indicates October 2026? And if my equipment fails in December 2026, will Cisco replace it with an MX85 equipment?

And if the product does not need repair and I have the license until January 2028, will it continue to work normally until that date (that is, beyond the end of support announced by Cisco)?

Correct - it will continue to work however it's unlikely they will get any firmware updates/upgrades since they are considered legacy systems.

What you indicate is available in the licensing model  Per-Device?

The license and device will continue to function after the EOS date but support will be limited and anything hardware related would not be covered. Additionally as long as you are co-term you would be able to migrate to an MX85 free of charge if you desire to: https://documentation.meraki.com/General_Administration/Licensing/Meraki_Co-Termination_Licensing_Ov...

I would strongly urge you to upgrade before the EOS date to ensure your network is protected.

Kind of a big deal

I would recommend you upgrade the hardware.  Options you could consider:

MX75: https://meraki.cisco.com/product/security-sd-wan/small-branch/mx75/

MX85: https://meraki.cisco.com/product/security-sd-wan/medium-branch/mx85/

MX95: https://meraki.cisco.com/product/security-sd-wan/medium-branch/mx95/

The sizing guide is a great place to start for deciding which is the right size model.

In this case the client cannot renew the hardware for financial reasons and has a large number of MX64, MX84, MX100, what he is interested in is buying the license with the longest available time in these cases 3 years, but the end of life documents indicate that support ends before 3 years, What will happen to his devices if he acquires those licenses?

On the EOS Date, discontinued hardware products are removed from the price list and are no longer available for purchase. The device-specific licenses corresponding to discontinued hardware products will be available for purchase after the EOS Date, unless the license(s) is/are listed in the “End-of-Life Products” list provided below.
