MX Client Monitoring

Anyone know how to monitor a "client" across the VPN tunnel.  I have a MX that is tunneled to a Checkpoint firewall.  I'd like to setup something like the feature in Network Wide>Alerts>Clients connect or disconnect from the LAN for one of the clients across the VPN tunnel?  Any hack/workaround or other ideas would be appreciated.

You could send events to a syslog server and trigger an alert from events when the client connects or disconnects.

https://papertrailapp.com/ is a good, free syslog server to do this with.
