HTTPS not working when on cellular gateway

Hello,

We have a MX84 with Wan2 connected to a cellular gateway.  When Wan1 goes down, we have problems connecting to HTTPS sites.

In fact, if you:

telnet www.google.com 443

It will return plaintext HTML, whereas it shouldn't return ANYTHING.

Somehow it seems that 443 gets redirected to 80 but ONLY when on cellular.

There is no other NAT devices that could be translating it and the MX doesn't even have this capability.

When plugging directly into the cellular gateway everything works perfectly.

Does anyone have any ideas on this?

I've seen cellular providers do this when the account runs out of credit or when they use a splash page you have to click on to continue to get access.

Yeah, that's what I thought it might be.  I spent 2 hr with support tonight and got nowhere.  On with Verizon now...  It is a Verizon corporate account with unlimited data.  If you connect the MG direct to a laptop it works fine.

Did you ever find out what was causing this?

Sadly, no. And it isn’t fixed yet. 😀
