Options for a Chinese Meraki Site

Hi all,

As far as I know, for regulatory reasons, it is necessary to create a separate organization at https://account.meraki.cn/ for locations in mainland China.

I have a customer who runs several sites in China and connects these to Europe via MPLS. Theoretically they could provide the Internet breakout for the Meraki Dashboard traffic (Management Network) in Europe behind the MPLS. Then the site could also be operated through the customer's regular Meraki organization. The customer is planning to deploy MR access points only.

Do you have any experience with this? How likely is it that the Chinese government will notice?

Regards,

Fabian

You can always use the Meraki global dashboard for the devices located in China.

But for compliance purposes, it is recommended to use the China dashboard.

Sometimes, the cloud connectivity (control traffic) may not be stable, we have seen some organizations get devices offline on the dashboard, which could be the China firewall issue or others, which can not be guaranteed.

License transfer between the global and China dashboard orgs is supported. Just need to contact Meraki support for assistance.

I have customers running MXs in China connected to standard global Orgs, not hosted in China.  Works fine. Has been for many years.

What you can't guarantee is China won't have a change of heart and try and block that in the future.

Hi,

thank you for your response. The risk doing this would be that no license migration from the global Org to China Org is possible afterwards, right?

Why wouldn't you be able to migrate your licence?
