License Expiration and Its Effect on The Network

Hello,

My company's network license has expired on April 9th and we are past the 30 days grace-period.

In the Dashboard it is written that my license status is "License Required".

Our HQ has been trying to renew the license (it takes a long time since it is very bureaucratic).

I checked on the Dashboard and it seems the devices no longer pass traffic (understandable).

However it seems the devices are still working as intended on site.

Based on FAQ, "Meraki hardware that isn’t licensed won’t pass traffic".

What is the definition of "traffic" here? Does this mean all traffic or only traffic to the meraki dashboard?

Will the devices keep working without license like any non-meraki devices?

Any insight will be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi @jodic - in your instance the network should cease to function.

If you’re in the process of procuring new licenses you could reach out to your Meraki AM to see if they can extend the grace period.

You are using Co-Term or Per-Device Licensing.

The definition is that the devices will literally stop working, that is, your network will become inoperable.

I have seen some cases where with Per-Device Licensing, even after the grace period expired, it continued to work, but let's face it, even if it is a bug, I believe that you should have the good sense to renew the licenses, right? I think it is a question of trust.

I am not a Cisco Meraki employee. My suggestions are based on documentation of Meraki best practices and day-to-day experience.

Please, if this post was useful, leave your kudos and mark it as solved.

Thanks for the reply.

I use Co-Termination licensing.

I assumed the shutdown would happen in the morning (my zone) since I usually got email reminder about the license in the morning.

So I was kind of surprised when it's still working on site.

But I guess it will probably happen in the next 24 hours.
