From Wireless network to combined network

Dear Community,

I've got a customer that has already deployed MR access points on several remote locations, so I have about 50 networks which type is wireless.

After 1 year, our customer loved the way how Meraki is efficient, he bought MS switches to replace HP devices (I'm so happy) and I would like to change networks & template type from Wireless to Combined.

Any best practice ? Procedure ?

I think I will create 50 new networks, plus 1 MS template first. Then, combine them. But I hope I can do that if I have networks bound on it.

If you have better idea or if I missed a cool feature, many thanks in advance for your help.

Franck.

I found a workaround, not sure this is the better way but it works.

I start from the following layout :

My networks are of Wireless type. network1.png

First I create a new network dedicated for switches. Add devices in it and configure it.

Then, I create the switch template in addition to the Wireless template.

I combine the templates to create a unique combined template.

Now I can combine the wireless & switch networks between them

Done !

Maybe there is another way to save time 😉

Many thanks to all

How do you know the current networks are not combined already? You might be able to just add the switches.

Nope 🙂 in the overview table there is a column "Type", there is the value "Wireless" that means the networks are exclusively set with APs.

Another way to solve this could be to put all your switches into the one network, and leave your Wireless networks alone.

By taking this approach you essentially create one giant virtual switch. This makes applying switch port changes across multple sites very easy.
