About me

Hi Meraki community i'm Ash,

My work is currently on-hold due to not having a job right now but it's helped me with research into improving data security.

I'm not exactly a cybersecurity wizard but I know I should try and secure my devices better and hoping Meraki was the answer.

I'm new to bthe whole thing and recently discovered this place.

Meraki was actually refrenced through a conversation I had with ChatGPT about a hypothetical investigation team into potential fraad from a company and how they would keep all the investigation details safe through various means especially transit and got told about geofencing devices and having data removed if the device (in this case it was laptops) left the permmited zone and didn't get confirmed after a time-period.

I decided that having different parts of an investigation be on different laptops (along with required access such as a special keycard or USB - basically making the laptop useless without it and automatically purging data)

I'll attempt to clarify what I hope to gain as well as my use case for Meraki;

1. Increased personal device security with geofencing and a full data wipe

2. An easier way to monitor my devices while away from home and not risk theft on transit

3. A supportive and friendly community that'll help me with issues I may get in the future.

4. My intention of Meraki use is what you'd call BYOD.

A few facts about me;

1. Cybersecurity is a massive interest to me

2. I have a VPN which I use a lot and my IP address is different everyday (mainly for use on public WiFi and shopping security)

3. If I could go to any event in history, it would be either Woodstock 1969, Live Aid 1985 or The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert at Wembley Stadium in 1992 (I have it on DVD)

Thanks for reading 🙂

Welcome @AshH1988  IT security/Secops is a great field to get into and it's only going to grow.

that's true, however it can be an expensive field to get into in terms of qualifications that are reconised.

I would look for entry level roles with a company that provides cyber security audits, this would be a great way to learn the tricks of the trade while becoming certified.
