The Original OD2

I am the original owner of several OD2 units that were taken out of operation at the end of 2015.     I recently visited the dashboard to find that the dashboard is completely different and that all my networks are gone.   Will I have to go through the same set up process all over again?  And I'm assuming that the lifetime license is still that--a lifetime license.   Any assistance appreciated. ... I would DMZ the IP being given to the mx64. I've had to set up VPN routers behind NATs before and putting them in the DMZ eliminates a lot of the headaches and other road blocks that may not be obvious. ... View more

Have you tried contacting higher levels at your ISP to resolve the obvious issue on their end? If they're clearing out their ARP and everything is working fine until their ARP gets fouled up again, it's on their side. And with 60 sites, I'd strongarm them to look into it or you'll move to another provider (have another provider ready as they may call your bluff). ... View more

Re: Meraki AP's working as a mesh

My only experience is with the discontinued Outdoor OD2, but this scenario would show each AP as non-accessible in the dashboard, and that means you really can't check the status. If you could connect one of the APs to Internet of some sort, then you could use the dashboard to see the APs and run some tests. ... View more

I haven't used it yet myself, but I've heard the shrewsoft client is quite nice and robust. I'd give that a shot vs waiting on anyconnect. ... View more

The only problem you could possibly run into might be a licensing one if you have a site on the 'free' pro subscription and upgrade it to enterprise.  Then all of the devices on that site would need enterprise licenses. ... View more

I've been working with Meraki products shortly after they introduced the Indoor and Outdoor (OD2) pro products. While more expensive than other wireless deployments at the time, our hotel deployments were absolutely thrilled with the reliability of the products and the wifi. Even when an AP or gateway failed, the only way we even knew was because the dashboard told us so--the site never knew of the failure. The Meraki products were one of a kind at one point, but now the competition has caught up to a certain extent. I still recommend the Indoor and Outdoor products to smaller networks that need more management than bandwidth. Little known fact--the Outdoor OD2s can use a wired backhaul when they are the only devices on a LAN and their mesh will be based on the wired link vs the wireless one. Bandwidth via this wired backhaul was limited to 11Mbps, even with 100Mbps switches, but was better than a purely wireless mesh. ... View more
