Hi both, I think I've found the issue. It's not a Meraki issue. The routing on the firewall for the WiFi subnet is still set to a /24 and not /23! Thanks for the responses.

Hi all, We've increased our DHCP scope from a /24 to /23 at one of our offices. There we have a lot of Chromebooks on the WiFi. They seem to be the only devices that are having issues with external connectivity. They're getting an IP and knows the gateway to use from the DHCP scope. It can also reach internal devices but not able to reach externally. I'm racking my brains as to what could be the problem - I made the necessary changes on the core switch, the domain controller and the firewall. Is there anything on the Meraki I need to do? The SSID is VLAN tagged to the same VLAN so I haven't changed that. I don't suppose I need to do anything as I didn't have to when I changed the scope for another office but just wondering Thanks in advance!

Hi all. Issue resolved - even though the VLAN is a /23 the scope was only set to assign 254 IPs. Increased the scope now so all good. Thanks a lot for the help.

Hi all. We're getting DHCP errors for some clients starting today. The VLAN is a /23 but I've counted up 254 leased addresses so plenty spare. Prior to today we haven't had any issues; we've had about 40 people move into the office but that doesn't explain why a client can't connect in terms of address space (there were 5/5 DHCP errors on the dashboard). The DHCP server is on our firewall and no configuration changes have been made. The total of 254 makes me suspicious- perhaps the Meraki doesn't see the VLAN as a /23? We're using a mix of MR32s and MR42s and are using bridged mode. Any pointers would be appreciated!

@kYutobi Yeah we know about that issue. One possible reason we were told was it could be that because our APs are quite close to each other, there might be contention between them which is causing the devices to drop off. How plausible that is I don't know.

Hi rowell. Nobody can tell me why we're getting so many output errors. The end user devices are a mixture of Chromebooks, Android/iPhones, Windows machines and Macbooks. The DHCP scope is big enough, the link isn't saturated. The roaming was verified by our third party support when looking at the event logs. At the moment we've hit a brick wall. We've adjusted power settings, changed the minimum bit rate, implemented band steering, upgraded the firmware. Naturally it's very frustrating!

Hi Rodrigo, I opened a case with Meraki support at the beginning, before I focused on our core switch. Then I used our third party support who have been unable to find anything wrong with the configuration. Trouble is none of the support people (again third party) can pinpoint the issue either at the Meraki side or on the core switch, or on the firewall side. My next thought is to swap out the AP near to where most of the complaints come from and see whether that makes any difference. Speaking to a colleague earlier, about connecting with their iPhone,they were able to connect to the network but not long after that they were disconnected and they then manually connected successfully to the other SSID.

Hi kYutobi. We have different VLANs in each office for the SSID i.e. 10.10.60.0, 10.20.60.0 and the offices are separated by site-to-site VPNs.

Hi all. This is a basic question that I just want confirmation on. We want to change our SSID password for just one office only. All of our global sites use the same SSID name and password. If we change the password at our site, will that affect other sites? TIA

Hi EricEJ. For us I think the issue is related to the fact that we're seeing a lot of packet output errors on our core switch interface that connects to the firewall. We've done WiFi troubleshooting with support and there was nothing that stood out as being wrong with our config. We also had the issue before the firmware upgrade (I thought upgrading the FW would have helped, but no). Just thought I'd share this pointer. Good luck!

Hi pjc. I've been looking at our core switch at the our office and the core switch at one of our other sites that is having no issues. I see that on the interface connecting to the firewall at our office there are a high number of output errors, whereas our other site has none at all. I don't want to say I have found the issue but it seems plausible that this is what's causing it.

Hi pjc. It was happening before the firmware upgrade. The clients are bridged to the LAN and there hasn't been any changes to the DHCP scopes. There are 2 rogue SSIDs that are both contained, and channel utilisation is low. There haven't been any upgrades to the clients and there isn't an increase on the number of clients in the last 30 days. Interference levels aren't very high; I will need to go back and check on which band this is happening on most. It's been suggested to me to use the DNS servers of our ISP rather than those of Google as they're set to now, but they've always been set to use Google's. I will restart each AP this evening and see how I go...

Hi Nash. We did a firmware upgrade last Thursday, and the AP power settings were set to negotiate their broadcast volumes. I thought it maybe because of a client-side issue but I've ruled that out because of the variety of devices affected.Also checked the access switches to which the APs are connected to see if there are any interface issues but nothing there either.

Hi. We're having issues with clients disconnecting from the SSIDs. This is affecting all sorts of clients - Windows, Macs, Chromebooks, IOS devices. 802.11r is disabled, we have band steering enabled, utilisation is low and interference is low. Cisco suggested changing the power setting to variable from 100%. We have also upgraded the firmware to the latest version. Nothing major stands out from the DFS events. I have also checked the DHCP and DNS event logs on our domain controller but again, nothing of any significance there. The APs are MR32s and they have been in place for over 3 years and haven't been a problem up until now. We haven't made any major network changes and there haven't been any environmental changes in the building either. We have increased the minimum bit rate to 12mbps but we're having no joy. This is happening when connected to several APs, but we have had issues with clients that are connected to one particular AP. I have checked out the Meraki logs and the disassociation is because of an 'unknown reason'. For some users, they have to manually re-connect to the network, whereas others it has reconnected itself after a few seconds. I don't believe it's anything physical but I'm lost as to what else it can be. We have had an external contact look over our config and they can't see anything wrong with it. I'm just out of ideas so any help would be appreciated!

Hi, Several of our users are unable to access the internet when connecting to one of the SSIDs. I increased the DHCP scope a few weeks ago and there a plenty of leases left. I can't explain why this is happening. I'm clutching at straws at the moment - we have about 15 more people in the office than we had last week so in my mind it must be because of this. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, As I posted my message I realised I didn't add the new VLAN to the allowed VLANs on the relevant switch ports. I am now able to connect to the SSID now but have no internet access. I'm assuming this is a firewall issue?

Hi, I have added a new SSID to our Meraki dashboard but I am unable to connect to it. I have done the following: 1. Setup a WiFi VLAN on our core switch, with IP helpers pointing to our domain controllers 2. Created a DHCP scope on the domain controllers 3. Added a network object on our firewall and assigned it to the same groups as our other SSID (using Check Point firewall) 4. Setup firewall rules 5. Deployed the policy 6. Added the VLAN to the trunk on the switch When connecting I get an error saying it couldn't get an IP address. I'm not sure what else to try. What could be the likely cause? Thanks in advance

Hi all. I think I understand. 1. Connect AP to network port 2. Sign into the AP's local config page 3. Enter the provided public IP 4. WeWork will configure what they need to on their end i.e. firewall rules to allow AP access to Meraki cloud 5.

Hi Marc. The AP will be moving into a completely different building on a third party's network ('WeWorks'). For the APs in our offices, the public IP is automatically assigned to each AP (in my limited experience with Meraki I've never had to statically assign it).
