Hello everyone, this is not a question, but a solution to a common problem with Windows 10 client VPN that is not documented in Meraki literature.  A small number of our windows 10 machines refuse to connect to client VPN using Windows 10 built in VPN tool.  We do not get an error, only a timeout of the connection attempt (much like you would get when the recommended regedit is not in place).  Without changing anything, we used the "rasphone" tool in windows to connect. Its an older tool, but it allowed us a way to circumvent  the Windows 10 built in VPN.       The machines that would not connect, would never actually reach the MX.  There seems to be a problem with some of the Windows 10 software vpn tools.  I have yet to find the common denominator in those machines, but we did find a solution that is not documented.   The be accurate, we first went through the document below, and followed all the troubleshooting steps.  After none of those worked, we ran across a seasoned engineer that challenged us to establish the VPN using "rasphone".  It worked immediately.     https://documentation.meraki.com/MX/Client_VPN/Troubleshooting_Client_VPN     You can find this tool by typing "rasphone" in your Windows 10 search bar.         ... There are many ways to accomplish this.  I, personally, integrate my SSIDs with Microsoft Network Policy Server (RADIUS).       https://documentation.meraki.com/MR/Encryption_and_Authentication/Configuring_RADIUS_Authentication_with_WPA2-Enterprise     However, the way you authenticate your end devices would determine the best path to accomplishing what your are looking for.  What sort of authentication are your using (WPA2- Enterprise, WPA2-PSK, Meraki Authentication)?  ... Was there any other client vpn software used before Meraki Client VPN?  I have had similar issues with computers that transitioned from Forticlient to Meraki.       IKE and AuthIP IPsec Keying Modules disabled (Windows only) Solution : This occurs most often when 3rd party VPN software has been installed and disables the IKEEXT service. This can be re-enabled by navigating in Windows to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services . Find the service named "IKE and AuthIP IPsec Keying Modules" and open it. Change the Startup type  to "Automatic". If this automatically reverts to "Disabled" or fails to start, it may be necessary to remove the 3rd party VPN software: ... View more

Also, on the subject of AWS, I actually proposed that, but it landed on deaf ears.  Maybe the price of one of these WAFs will make them reconsider,  Thanks again! ... View more

This absolutely makes sense, I had not considered the fact that 443  would be invisible to the MX.  Thanks for the input! It’s greatly appreciated! ... View more

Meraki MX vs WAF (Imperva, F5, A10)

Hello everyone. Could any of you Meraki experts comment on the security benefit (if any), that one of the heathen WAF appliances listed above would add to a DMZ?  The new appliance would be stacked behind my MX-250. We are in the planning process of opening a new Web Application to the internet, and our security consultants are recommending that we purchase one of these appliances(of course they sell them).     My hesitation is that neither the security consultants, nor the heathen vendors have reasonably convinced me that we will get added security benefit when purchasing one of these other appliances.  I have not seen any data that implies Meraki IPS is any less capable of blocking the same attacks as the other vendors. The other WAFs all have amazing performance bells and whistles, like load balancing and great analytics. None of which I see a large benefit in, as this will be a stand alone web server.     I understand that the Meraki MX, and the other WAF appliances are fundamentally designed for two different applications.  My question only revolves around the security benefit of adding one of the other WAFs to my network.   Do I gain anything on the security front?    Your input is appreciated!  ...
