Re: mx100 upgrading to 15.43 causes DHCP storms

What was actually occurring is the device was rebooting and then it just looked like everything was re-dhcping. It was an effect, not a cause.   The reboot issue is a little known issue with some mx100 firewalls. They are researching if it is the code causing the reboot or an incidental, like the temp gets too hot and it reboots  ... View more

@Inderdeep That is also my thread.  Apparently my issue is known but there is no resolution yet.  The MX 100's in certain cases reboot when running 15.x or 16.x.  Cause is yet to be determined. ... View more

mx100 upgrading to 15.43 causes DHCP storms

We upgraded to 15.42.1 and it caused DHCP storm to occur on all our networks.  And exactly what I mean by that is every DHCP server, whether it is on the Meraki or not, requests all devices get new addresses. Meraki could not help and so we rolled it back. We need to upgrade to stay in front of the threat landscape.  But we cant.  We upgraded to 15.43 today and the same thing is happening. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this or how we can resolve it?  Meraki support could not help last time and I have been on hold for over two hours now. as well as having submitted the ticket at the same time.  The call remains unanswered and the ticket has not been touched. ... We rolled it back.  No issues since then.  So it absolutely was the firmware update. @cmr I noticed that they took all the urgency options out of the create a ticket screen.  I ASSumed <cough> that meant they would triage the tickets better...  My bad.   That being said, they emailed me at 3PM my time today.  I replied and am waiting for their reply.   ... It is happening about 3 times a (business) day, causing everything on the network to go dead for about 1 min.  yesterday it happened 5 times during the business day.  Today it has happened 3 times.  Everything, including all my IP phones and people using their computers for zoom calls... all get interrupted for about a min. It's is a problem and it is interfering with people's ability to do their jobs. And it means that people have to talk to me.  I don't like it when people talk to me...because that means things are broken... Thanks, Thomas   ... View more

MX100, Strange DHCP events/storm after V15.42.1 upgrade

We have an MX100 security appliance.  We have exclusively Meraki switches and WAP's.  Within 8 hours of upgrading to 15.42.1, our network started to bugger out.  Log inspection reveals all DHCP servers are releasing all DHCP addresses on all VLAN's regardless of where the DHCP server is.  We have 5 networks served with Meraki DHCP and one served with Microsoft DHCP. (server 2016, v1607, up to date on patching). Does anyone know of anything that would cause all DHCP servers to flush themselves and re-ask everyone to get new IPs? All networked devices with DHCP addresses lose connectivity, including office phones.  When the storm is over and all DHCP's addresses are instructed to be released, the meraki puts a little cherry on top and says "Oh look I found a rogue DHCP server!" except it is not.  It is allowed and configured as an allowed DHCP server.  Here is a log cut. rogue 1 I can't find anything strange in the logs that would cause this to occur.  I'd love to hear your thoughts!   ... 100% sure it is down.  This is the first of many messages, this is a switch deep inside my network.  Tech support blamed it on a global internet outage.  I laughed and asked if that was also why their support page is down. This is a PRTG notification that a switch deep inside my network is down.   then about a min later I got 5 more devices down and then a few mins later, I got an email with about 30 devices listed.   A new ticket has been assigned to your group "Incident Team". Please follow the link below to view the ticket. I'm with Kevlar. Security is a journey, not a destination. We hire new people all the time. Even though most people have heard me drone on and on about how important it is not to click every link in every email, I still have a new person who has not heard it enough and clicks on that one link that alerts a hacker that immediately logs in and spams every one of his saved contacts. So I want a security appliance, separate from a firewall, to monitor what is going on in my network and look for things like SQL injection, like the guys from Marketing plugging in their xbone 5 and downloading some indi game that has malware on it. Or HR downloading lord knows what from the play store that comes with free malware at no extra cost! There are so many attack vectors now. Every switch needs to watch for and notify of attacks, the WAP's, cameras and firewalls need to be able to fire off an email if they feel like they are under attack, Cloud computing has so many benefits to offer, as long as it's available from wherever the IOT device is. ...
