WIFI Issue with 4 x MR56 in one area.

Users were having a disconnect issue and when I checked the WAP nearest them there were zero clients connected. The users were connected to 1 of the other WAPs in that area. There is nothing in the logs of the one that wont connect or the ones they do connect to. The other 3 WAPs have 40-50 devices coming and going all day with no issue.

Current version: MR 31.1.8 on all.
They are all in the same Radio profile.
I rebooted the 4 devices a few weeks back and all came back ok but has gone again. Want to see if I can investigate first before rebooting again.

My thinking is that the nearest wap is being advertised but the devices are disconnecting from other WAP but not connecting to the potential problem one.

In the log there was this one message where a laptop tried to connect and failed.

auth_mode='wpa2-psk' 11k='1' 11v='1' reason='unspecified' radio='1' vap='0' channel='64' rssi='35'

Anyone seen similar issues.

Roaming is a device-specific decision, however I've encountered some scenarios where the problem was with the antennas and an RMA was necessary. Therefore, I advise you to open a support case with Meraki.

I am not a Cisco Meraki employee. My suggestions are based on documentation of Meraki best practices and day-to-day experience.

Please, if this post was useful, leave your kudos and mark it as solved.

Click on an affected client, then open the "Roaming" tab to see what it says.

Hi @merman01 ,

"... the nearest wap is being advertised but the devices are disconnecting from other WAP".

The decision which AP to connect to is completely made by the client. If, the Wireless clients are connecting to APs further away. I would suspect they are transmitting their RF signals too far. Have a look at adjusting the power levels and minimum bitrate. This can be done in the RF Profile.

See below guide for details.
