Users are facing frequently disconnection from Radius server associated SSID

We use a RADIUS server for MAC-based authentication, but users are facing frequent SSID disassociations that hamper productivity. Since our RADIUS is configured strictly for AAA (not for automatic disconnects) and the connection to the external server is stable, we cannot determine if the disconnects originate from Meraki, the client device(multple client facing same problem), or the RADIUS server.

The first thing I check these days is whether the customer has an "RF Profile" configured.  It solves about 90% of the issues immediately by creating one.

I mostly use the "Open Office Profile".

Make sure you make the profile the "default", or apply it to all your APs.

And while you are there, make sure you turn on AI channel planning and "busy hour".

A bit more information around the disassociation:

802.11 disassociation: unknown reason - A client is no longer communicating with the AP, yet failed to notify the AP that it should be dropped from the association table. Alternately, it can also be a result of the client being unable to reach the AP due to wireless interference, coverage holes, or anything that would suddenly cause a client to stop being heard by an AP.

Common Wireless Event Log Messages and Issues - Cisco Meraki Documentation

Essentially the client is disconnecting without sending a reason for the disconnection.

There's a variety of reasons this could be but a few things to check are:

  • RF interference - check what the interference is like under Wireless -> RF spectrum. As @PhilipDAth mentioned, consider creating and/or tuning an RF profile to suit.
  • Drivers - If all impacted clients are using a standard operating system and drivers, consider testing newer Wi-Fi drivers
  • If you believe it to be related to the RADIUS authentication, you can test spinning up an SSID with PSK on the same AP and see if you can replicate the issue with that.

We habe nearly the same problems. Which FW do you have on the MS130 ?

If you run the FW 18.1.x on MS130, please try it with FW 17.2.2 and observe, if the client connection problems still exists.

Our problems gone with FW 17.2.2. On other switches than MS130, we don't have the problems with MS FW 18.1.x. The FW 18.1.x has definitly a problem the MS130 Switches.
