Query on Meraki AP version

Hi Team,

I have a small query.

I could see in one of the Meraki Network, the AP model is MR33 and the firmware version is showing as MR31.x.x. However, when I checked the Matrix, the AP model MR33 don't support MR31.x.x. So, does that mean it is showing the network firmware version and in actual, the AP is having the old MR30 installed?

Can you send a screenshot please?

Hi Alessandro,

Thank you for your response.

I am sorry I won't be able to share the screen for security reason.

Okay, you don't need to share all the information; it should just be the firmware version you're viewing to make sure you're checking in the correct location.

But no problem, in this case, I suggest opening a support case.

Yes. I checked with support team and as per them it is showing the network firmware but in actual the AP is having the MR30.x firmware only.

I do see the same behavior.  its somewhat confusing, because for example a mx does report its actual running firmware

If you put a device into a network with a firmware it does not support, it should run the latest version that it can support, which should be listed in Meraki's documentation.

For example, an MR34 AP only supports up to firmware 26.8.3, if you put it in a network that is 30.7.1, it will run 26.8.3.

Support can always confirm if you have a suspicion of a firmware mismatch, and sometimes it is necessary as the dashboard will tell you what it is configured for, not what the device is running, even for MX sometimes it can give you incorrect information (infrequently, but it is possible).
