6GHz Backhaul Mesh on MR57

In the Meraki Mesh document (as of Oct 3,2023 update), it said that the New Mesh Features in MR 29.1+ Firmware supports AP Mesh over 6GHz on new Wifi6E AP (for example MR57).

I understand If we use 6GHz for Mesh backhaul, that means we free up 2.4GHz and 5GHz to serve to clients only, which should be a good thing in term of RF Management. But I try to search information on how much this will improve in term of clients throughput and latency.

Have anyone done any test on the Mesh throughput when using 6GHz as a backhaul? Does it provide much better Mesh throughput for client devices? Assuming that most of the clients are still 2.4GHz/5GHz devices.

Thanks,

Sakul

This will vary significantly, implementation by implementation - particularly based upon the rate which can be negotiated for the mesh link (mostly:   how far between the APs).   Note that, with 6 GHz backhaul, the penetration will be even less than 5 GHz - you will likely need clear line-of-sight between the APs.

Here to help

You mean, if a link RSSI of 6GHz is better than 5GHz, AP can use 6GHz as mesh backhaul link ?
Can we configure any priority settings for 6GHz manually ?
