We have 19 Cisco Merak MR42 APs set up in 19 apartments. There are a total of 24 apartments. We also have a Meraki MX84 firewall, and 100 MB up/down internet.
I am trying to figure how best to set up the Bandwidth settings for this kind of set up. A lot of the users use things like Netflix, youtube, facebook etc.
In looking at the various settings I am a bit confused on what to set to allow enough bandwidth for things like online video. It appears you can set bandwidth settings on the MX as well as on each AP or SIDD. there are traffic shaping rules, per SSID and per client and traffic shaping per application type.
I am looking for advice on best to configure this.
I hope I have given enough information.
thank you

Hi @freddy7 . If you apply it globally on the MX then you’re limited to a single rule and are therefore restricting all networks. Whereby if you apply on the MR’s you could have different policies per SSID.
Hi @freddy7
@I believe for the sake of fairness for all users you should restrict bandwidth per user . Simple config to apply as you don’t then have to start applying restrictions per application etc

Thanks @DarrenOC. what about using the Global bandwidth limits on the MX instead? That would also apply the bandwidth rule to all clients. Thoughts?

Got it. Thank you
