Local Admin Credentials for MS250 Switches

Hello,

 

Is it possible to connect to a single switch remotely using "local admin" credentials? Given that it's already connected to the Meraki Cloud Dashboard. 

 

I know when we initially setup the switch that we access the Device Local Status Page using a well-known credentials of serial number+no password. I'm trying to figure out if there's a way for me to access that page remotely now that the switch is connected to the dashboard.

You can access the device local status page by navigating to the IP address of the device or by navigating to any of the following links depending on the type of device:

There are some configuration options available depending on the type of device (ie MX, MS), but they are very limited.

 

The username for devices that have default authentication credentials or have not fetched configuration will be the serial number (upper case letters and dashes) with no password. Authentication credentials should be changed to have a strong password after their initial use. Please see the Changing Log-In Credentials section below.

 

The short answer is you should really do any/all configuration in the Meraki Dashboard.

The username should be admin and the password will be found on Network Wide / General in this section:

Hi @ccgmercado

The local status page (LSP) of any Meraki device can be accessed through a web browser on a connected host machine. Therefore, if you can remotely connect to a computer that is connected to the switch, you will be able to reach the LSP remotely using switch.meraki.com or the Switch's LAN IP.

 

This would require the Switch to be online and connected to the Dashboard. If the Switch was offline and unreachable you would not be able to access the LSP remotely and would need to be onsite with the switch to reach the LSP.

There is a way to see the login credentials for the local status page of all Cisco Meraki appliances from your dashboard network settings. Go to Network-wide > Configure > General and you will locate the local device status page configuration section.

Now, you could remotely access them with a jumpbox. Some of my customer sites have Windows and Linux NUCs and Raspberry Pi boxes that I can use as jumpbox machines. I have been successful at remotely accessing the local status pages by having a jumpbox connected to the appliance in question, then going to the web browser and typing in http://switch.meraki.com or http://ap.meraki.com. and it successfully give me access; however, this is only dependent upon if the jumpbox is connected to the appliance you want to access. If it's not, then it will only resolve the local status page to the device it is directly connected to.

I don't think you will be able to succesfully connect to a local status page remotely since all the switches in your network have the same 1.1.1.100 IP address and that only works by intercepting traffic directly from a switchport.

Connecting the management port of an MS250 might yield a different IP but I believe this will also give problems when multiple switches exist in your network.
