Firmware upgrades - cloud monitoried (recommended releases)

Hi,

I’ve encountered an issue several times while attempting to update my Cloud-Managed C9200 models.

Specifically, I often find that I am unable to locate the recommended release for my switches in the Meraki Upgrade Manager.

I have several C9200L-48PL-4X switches, and according to Cisco’s official webpage, the recommended updates are either 17.9.6a or 17.12.5 (as per this link: Cisco Recommended Releases).

However, these versions don't appear to be available in the Upgrade Manager. Could you kindly clarify if there’s something I may have missed or if there’s a specific reason for this?

Thank you in advance 😁.

Kind of a big deal

Meraki Managed switches use the same base firmware but only use specific versions approved by Meraki.

Not sure when you looked but the only available release for 9200Ls was pulled this past week due to a bug. Hence why you may not have seen any releases. There were none. Its back now in Beta (17.15.3) but unless you migrated with one of the earlier betas you will still have nothing to upgrade to until a new release comes out.

It makes sense - was not aware of the bug.

The C9200 are running on 17.9.5 and currently I only see 17.12.4.

I guess I just have to wait and see and then upgrade to the latest Meraki approved version.

From the 17.15.3 version there is a new way of management called Hybrid Mode. This is also a configuration change on the switch it self. With that you gain additional features in the dashboard.

Probably that is the reason you can't upgrade directly, because it requires an change in Management. The bug you speak of was in the with the Cloud-Native IOSXE version for the MS390, C9300(X) and C9200L versions for management in the Meraki Dashboard.
