Audio Video Bridging and Catalyst Meraki

Good Day All,

I trust you are doing well.

I am trying to figure out if the Catalyst-M series of switches support AV Bridging like their Cisco native counterparts?

I am worried that this functionality is lost in the Meraki Managed versions as there are quite a number of differences in configurability.

If anybody is able to clear this up it would be great!

Thanking you in advance.

Jonathan

The dashboard does not expose the configuration of this feature at this time and I've not seen it in any of the material about the upcoming 17.18 release. If you need this feature and want to use the dashboard you need to stick to cloud monitored mode and configure with the CLI.

You can make a feature request for it to be added: https://documentation.meraki.com/General_Administration/Other_Topics/Give_your_feedback_(previously_...)

Thank you!

I believe Cloud-Monitoring mode is now being phased out though in favor of "Meraki-Managed mode now".

Therefore I don't see it as a longer term solution.. For my home network maybe hehe but sadly not in production.

Appreciate the feedback!

Cloud Monitoring is not being phased out, they've changed the marketing name multiple times and it's hard to keep up, but essentially it's now called Hybrid Mode: https://documentation.meraki.com/MS/Cloud-Native_IOS_XE/Hybrid_Operating_Mode_for_Cloud-Managed_Cata...

 I see!

My apologies.

Considering the 9300 and 9500's are the main supporters, it wouldn't hurt to try the special IOS-XE and see if AVB remains supported. It looks like we'll in anycase be going down the native Catalyst route so it would just be a value add if we can see it in Meraki at this point.

AVB is not supported on the Catalyst-M series switches managed by Meraki.

I am not a Cisco Meraki employee. My suggestions are based on documentation of Meraki best practices and day-to-day experience.

Please, if this post was useful, leave your kudos and mark it as solved.

As said above, AVB is not supported on Meraki managed catalyst switches as the feature is not available natively in the Meraki dashboard.

My understanding is that it is supported on Catalyst switches in Meraki monitoring mode, or when standalone running IOS-XE.

The cloud monitoring mode is phased out in favor of a hybrid mode.

You can see that when you onboard a Catalyst switch that you have the option to have configuration source be cloud or device.  Device means you still configure everything on the local CLI (but you can also use cloud CLI) and you still have access to all features.

However I do believe even in cloud native mode (-M) with the new Cloud CLI mode you should be able to add configuration that is not yet natively supported in dashboard.  Do correct me if I'm wrong but that is the whole point of the cloud CLI to be able to push stuff that has no dashboard GUI yet.

I can't point to anything specific public and I'm not even sure there is a slide I can't share that explicitly states it, but this was brought up in the various discussions I was in about last months announcements and is not supported. It's roadmapped to possibly be able to do cli and cloud configs, but it doesn't exist yet. The cloud cli is supposed to be limited in what it allows you to do. More for the ability to gather data for your own support work.

I believe this was mentioned a year ago.  However I have looked at the most recent CLUS presentations (especially that one from Brennan Martin).

There it was indeed stated that fully cloud managed (or configuration source cloud as it is called now) switch don't get the full config mode yet and will have to rely on dashboard availability for features.

So in the case of OP it would be better to remove the switch and fact default it and then add it with configuration source local to still have these features.
