Assigning a VLAN

Hi,

Please forgive my ignorance (i do have some knowledge about networking, but it's quite basic), i'm an IT manager 🙂

My question is the following:

Is it possible to assign a VLAN id depending of the type of device that is (or will be) connected to a port (on, lets say a Meraki MX100) , example:

VLAN 110 - Laptops and desktops

VLAN 210 - IP Phones (like a Avaya 9600 series)

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Kind of a big deal

Hi,

https://documentation.meraki.com/MR/Client_Addressing_and_Bridging/VLAN_Tagging

Per-Device Type VLAN Tagging

Group policies can automatically be assigned to different device types such as Android, iPad, iPhone, iPod, Mac OS X, Windows, etc. If the group policy includes a VLAN ID, then group policy’s VLAN ID will be applied to the user and override any VLAN settings for that SSID or user.

Group policies can also be manually assigned to devices in the in the Monitor->Clients->Edit Details page.
