SNMP for cameras?

Is it possible to connect to the cameras via snmp?  I have read the snmp overview but was not clear if it applied to cameras or not.  I set up a community string but still cannot seem to talk to individual cameras, so I was trying to determine if that is even possible, or it possibly its only switches & AP's where you can access info via snmp.

I don't believe cameras have an SNMP interface.  I'm not even sure what the use case would be for SNMP with a camera.

In our case the use case is inventory management.  We use Lansweeper to track our online IT assets and it can query serial number, model number and such over snmp on some other cameras (Cisco).  That's the information that would be useful to have all in one place.
