Use of Management Interface on Cisco Meraki MX450?

Hi Folks...as per my understanding, all on-premises Meraki MX devices are managed and monitored by the Meraki Dashboard via the established DTLS "control" connections.

There also exists a management port on these Meraki MX devices. The existing Meraki documentation suggests usage of this "management-interface" only for the initial setup and that too if the requirement is to setup a "static" IP address. I am assuming, thereafter there is little requirement for this management interface (as all management is via the Meraki Dashboard).

Can someone please clarify if my understanding seems correct?

The only later requirement for this dedicated management interface is for some special cases when the link to the Meraki Dashboard gets broken (for any reason, whatsoever).

Any and all suggestions/clarifications will be highly appreciated!!!

Thanks very much.

Yes, this information is correct.

I am not a Cisco Meraki employee. My suggestions are based on documentation of Meraki best practices and day-to-day experience.

Hi @Stuka_Fluka , you’re correct in your understanding.

You can use the mgmt interface for your initial deployment by physically connecting to the device and setting up WAN IPs etc.

once connected to the dashboard you lockdown the mgmt interface.
