To clarify, you can change the password via the General settings on the dashboard.
If the device has a connection to the Internet, it will update.
If you don't, and the serial number doesn't work, then you will most likely have to factory reset the device

Which password do you mean? The local password? You can check it (and change it) in dashboard in "Network-wide/General".
If you mean your dashboard password, there's a reset procedure for that:
